Chief Guest Insight: We were honored to have Shri Anand Swarup, IAS (Secretary, Consumer Affairs), who emphasized that the joint efforts of institutions, industries, and citizens are vital for robust consumer protection.
Distinguished Guests: The event was graced by Brigadier K. G. Behl, Shri Pankaj Gupta (President, IAU), Dr. S. Farooq (Chairman, Himalayan Wellness Co.), and Shri Harendra Garg (President, SMAU), who lauded the role of BIS in ensuring national quality.
Leadership Address: Shri Saurabh Tiwari (Director & Head, BIS Dehradun) highlighted the mission of the Department of Consumer Affairs and urged everyone to use the BIS Care App to verify product authenticity and voice grievances.
๐ฆ Manak Manthan Technical Session:
A dedicated session was held on IS 16984:2024 (Coated Folding Box Board for Packaging of General Consumer Products). Shri Sachin Menon (Scientist-D) joined virtually to explain the critical role of standardized packaging in ensuring product safety and consumer trust.
With over 120 participants, including industry leaders, academics, and government officials, the day concluded with a collective resolve to make quality a non-negotiable right for every consumer! ๐ฎ๐ณโจ

Inaugural Vision: Shri Saurabh Tiwari (Director & Head, BIS Dehradun) opened the session by emphasizing how standardization is the bridge between consumer safety and a thriving manufacturing sector. He shared crucial insights on MSME incentives and the "Handholding Support" provided by the Government to help industries achieve BIS certification.
Industry Collaboration: Dr. Harinder Garg (SMAU) and Shri Kamal Kishore Kataria (Regional Manager, SIIDCUL) joined as guests, praising the synergy between regulatory bodies and industrial stakeholders in improving regional manufacturing practices.
Technical Session: Smt. Neelam Singh (Joint Director, BIS) delivered an in-depth presentation on standards for Paper and Plastic-based Packaging, detailing certification procedures and the importance of Quality Control Orders (QCOs).
