SAFMA made complaint to NHRC regarding the grave incident involving violations of the right to life guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. As reported in The Times of India dated 01.01.2026, in a news item titled “Couple killed as mob torches their home in Assam”, a couple was brutally killed after being targeted by a mob. Officials have reportedly stated that superstition and misinformation continue to fuel such crimes in the region, despite witch-hunting being a punishable offence under the Assam Witch Hunting (Prohibition, Prevention and Protection) Act. Every child has the right to life, dignity, and a safe environment that nurtures emotional and psychological wellbeing. When children are driven to su***de due to systemic pressures, discrimination, or negligence, it reflects a failure of institutions responsible for protecting their fundamental rights.
The Commission has been urged to take cognizance and use jurisdiction under S.12 of The Protection of Human
