SDPI Raises Concerns Over Electoral Integrity in West Bengal
The Social Democratic Party of India expresses deep concern over the scale of central intervention and institutional bias that has undermined the integrity of the West Bengal Assembly elections, raising serious questions about the credibility of free and fair electoral processes. The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls resulted in the removal of nearly nine million names, about twelve percent of the electorate. This exercise appears to have disproportionately affected Muslim communities, women, and other marginalized sections, raising concerns of selective targeting. Tribunals addressed only a small fraction of cases before polling, effectively disenfranchising lakhs of genuine voters. Such a large scale exclusion, carried out within a short period and without adequate transparency or statutory clarity, indicates a systematic attempt to reshape the electorate.
These concerns were compounded by the deployment of over two lakh central armed police personnel, far exceeding previous levels. This heavy presence, along with the sidelining of state police leadership through transfers, contributed to an atmosphere of intimidation. Reports of prolonged identity checks and interference at polling stations further weakened public trust. The statement by Union Home Minister Amit Shah that central forces would remain even after the declaration of results raises concerns about the blurring of lines between electoral security and post poll control.
The Election Commission of India has come under scrutiny for mass transfers, out of state observers, opaque voter additions, and uneven handling of complaints, suggesting partisanship. When seen alongside actions by central agencies against opposition leaders, these developments point to coordinated pressure. The party urges the Election Commission to ensure transparency in counting, address complaints, and uphold the mandate of voters without fear or favor.

NHRC Must Uphold Constitutional Mandate and Act with Consistency and Accountability
The recent proceedings before the Allahabad High Court regarding the intervention of the National Human Rights Commission in government aided madrasas in Uttar Pradesh raise critical questions about institutional mandate, legal limits, and the principles of justice in a democratic society. The court’s observations on the scope of the Commission under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 underscore the need for statutory bodies to function within clearly defined boundaries. Directing the Economic Offences Wing to investigate alleged financial and administrative irregularities, without establishing a clear human rights dimension, raises concerns about jurisdictional overreach and blurs the distinction between human rights oversight and criminal or administrative processes.
Equally important, concerns regarding the selective engagement of human rights bodies cannot be ignored. Repeated instances of mob violence, lynching, and targeted attacks against vulnerable communities have posed serious challenges to the constitutional guarantee of life and liberty, yet responses have often appeared delayed or inadequate. When institutions mandated to protect fundamental rights appear inconsistent in addressing grave violations while actively engaging in matters of administrative scrutiny, it raises legitimate questions about priorities and impartiality. The differing views within the bench further highlight the sensitivity of the issue and the need for careful judicial consideration based on full hearings.
The Social Democratic Party of India emphasizes that madrasas have long contributed to educational access in underserved regions. As the matter proceeds, all institutions must remain guided by constitutional values, legal limits, and a firm commitment to justice, ensuring that human rights mechanisms stay focused on protecting dignity, equality, and freedom for all.

SDPI Raises Serious Questions Over Bareilly Train Incident: “Maulana Tausif Raza’s Death Is Not an Accident, Reveal the Truth”
Demand for Impartial Probe Intensifies
Lucknow | May 1, 2026
The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Uttar Pradesh, has expressed deep concern and outrage over the suspicious death of Maulana Tausif Raza Mazhari near Bareilly Cantt Railway Station on April 26–27, 2026. According to the party, Maulana Tausif Raza Mazhari (30), a resident of Kishanganj (Thakurganj), Bihar, and a teacher at a madrasa in Siwan, was returning home after attending the religious event “Urs-e-Taj-ush-Sharia” in Bareilly when he died after falling from a moving train under suspicious circumstances.
In its official statement, SDPI said that the allegations made by the family members are extremely serious. According to them, shortly before the incident, Maulana informed his wife over the phone that some unidentified individuals, allegedly intoxicated, were assaulting him in the train and accusing him of being a “thief.” The family also claims that they witnessed the assault through a video call. They have further alleged that he was targeted due to his religious identity (beard and cap) and was later pushed off the moving train, leading to his death.
On the other hand, the local police and railway authorities have termed the incident as an accident in their preliminary investigation, suggesting that due to extreme heat, the deceased may have been sleeping near a window and lost balance, resulting in the fatal fall. SDPI has pointed out that there is a serious contradiction between the two versions, making the case highly suspicious.
The party emphasized that this is not merely an individual death but a serious issue concerning passenger safety, law and order, and social harmony. In its letter to the Hon’ble Railway Minister, Government of India, SDPI has demanded a high-level and impartial investigation by an independent agency or a Special Investigation Team (SIT). It has also called for a detailed inquiry involving passengers, TTE, and railway staff present in the coach, preservation and examination of CCTV footage, forensic analysis of call detail records (CDR) and video evidence, and public disclosure of the postmortem report.
SDPI has clearly stated that declaring the case as an “accident” before the completion of a thorough investigation would be unjust. If any criminal conspiracy or negligence is found, strict legal action must be taken against those responsible.
The party further stated that such incidents create fear and insecurity among the general public, and it is the responsibility of the government and railway authorities to ensure a transparent and fair investigation so that justice is delivered and public confidence is maintained.
SDPI Uttar Pradesh State General Secretary Mohammad Nadeem has demanded immediate intervention in the matter, stating, “The truth must come out and the guilty must be punished at any cost.” He also confirmed that a formal memorandum has been submitted to the Railway Minister in this regard.
Copies of the memorandum have also been sent to the National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi; National Commission for Minorities, New Delhi; Deputy Inspector General (Government Railway Police), Uttar Pradesh; and Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Moradabad.

Stop Turning Campuses into RSS Shakhas
The Social Democratic Party of India strongly condemns the growing attempts to convert public universities into platforms for the ideological expansion of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh under the guise of its centenary celebrations. The recent RSS-linked Yuva Kumbh programmes in Delhi University colleges and Jamia Millia Islamia are not harmless cultural events but deliberate efforts to normalize a divisive and majoritarian political agenda within secular educational institutions. Universities are meant to be spaces of learning, critical inquiry, and constitutional values, not centres for communal indoctrination or political infiltration.
The RSS has a long history of promoting an exclusionary vision of India that stands against the spirit of pluralism, equality, and secular democracy enshrined in the Constitution. Its ideological foundations, shaped by figures like M.S. Golwalkar, have repeatedly raised concerns about the place of minorities in the national imagination. Opposition from students is therefore not intolerance but a legitimate democratic resistance against saffronisation and institutional capture. In minority institutions like Jamia, such programmes create fear, alienation, and insecurity among students who already feel targeted by the politics of polarization and suspicion.
It is deeply alarming that university administrations impose restrictions on ordinary student activities while extending permission and protection to RSS-linked events with heavy police deployment. This selective approach exposes administrative bias and undermines trust in institutional neutrality. The SDPI stands firmly with students resisting this ideological aggression and demands that public campuses remain independent, inclusive, and free from all forms of communal and partisan domination.

SDPI Raises Alarm Over Post Poll CAPF Presence and Election Commission Neutrality
The Social Democratic Party of India strongly condemns Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s announcement that Central Armed Police Forces will remain deployed in West Bengal for 60 days after the Assembly elections conclude. While the Election Commission of India exercises superintendence over the electoral process under Article 324 of the Constitution, its authority is limited to ensuring free and fair polling until the declaration of results. Shah’s preemptive statement, made on the final day of campaigning, reflects a clear political intent to project central dominance and influence voter perception. His remarks referring to opposition party workers as goons and threatening post poll action further deepen concerns. This blurs the line between election security and partisan messaging, undermining federal principles and the neutrality expected during elections.
Equally alarming is the Election Commission’s decision to appoint Ajay Pal Sharma, a controversial encounter specialist from Uttar Pradesh, as police observer in the sensitive district of South 24 Parganas. Known for his aggressive policing style during the administration of Yogi Adityanath, Sharma’s on camera warnings to a candidate’s family have raised serious concerns about intimidation rather than impartial oversight. Such selective appointments from a BJP ruled state risk eroding public trust in the poll body and create the impression of an attempt to tilt the electoral field in favor of one political force.
The SDPI demands that the Election Commission immediately clarify the exact tenure, operational authority, and command structure of these forces after May 4, and ensure that all observers maintain strict neutrality. Democracy cannot survive when central agencies are seen as instruments of political pressure. We urge all democratic forces to defend the federal spirit and protect the integrity of the electoral process.
