w Delhi, Ajmal officially re-launched the party in other states of India in February 2009. The name change of the party, from AUDF to AIUDF was made after the Lok Sabha elections in 2009. Though Ajmal has been accused of forming the AIUDF mainly to protect the Bangladeshis in the state of Assam, his real motive of forming the AIUDF was primarily to give voice to the suppressed and marginalized sections of the society in the state. The All India United Democratic Front caters to the under-privileged religious and linguistic minorities in Assam. This political party also aims at protecting the democratic rights and empowerment of these segments of society. Today, the AIUDF is the principal opposition to the ruling Congress government in Assam. In the 2011 Assam Legislative Assembly elections, the AIUDF won a total of 18 seats. It also has a visible presence in the state of West Bengal where the AIUDF contested 14 Lok Sabha seats in the 2009 general elections. The AIUDF is confident that it will win the 2016 Assam Legislative Assembly elections and that Ajmal will become the Chief Minister of Assam in the elections, defeating the Congress government. Election Symbol and its Significance


The election symbol of the AIUDF, as approved by the Election Commission of India, is "lock and key". This symbol is drawn on a party flag which is tricoloured with green (upper), white (middle) and black (lower). The election symbol is drawn in black in the centre on the white field of the party flag. The election symbol, along with the three colours green, white and black used to depict the AIUDF, is significant. Black signifies deprivation and oppression, as was faced by the under-privileged sections of the society; white signifies rescue from deprivation and oppression; green is the colour of peace and prosperity. The AIUDF was formed to bring peace and prosperity to the so-called lower sections of the society, by initiating policies and schemes for them. Thus, it is not only a political party of protests, but one of development and hope for the less-privileged people in Assam and West Bengal, the two states where the AIUDF is very prominent. Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, President of AIUDF
Ajmal is the only one in the AIUDF to be a Member of Parliament in the 15th Lok Sabha, representing the Dhubri constituency in Assam. He is also the President of the Assam State Jamia-Ulema-e-Hind and Member of the Advisory Board of Darul Uloom Deoband. He is even the President of an NGO called Markazul Ma'arif. Dr. Islam has been the Chairman and CEO of South Asia Regional Development Gateway (SARDEG). He is instrumental in reorganizing the working structure of the AIUDF, by increasingly involving more youth within the party. Achievements of AIUDF:


As a regional political party, the AIUDF has had a number of achievements. Some of these are listed below:

As the President of the AIUDF, Ajmal has implemented a number of schemes for the introduction of modern education and skilled training for madrasa graduates. He runs the Markarul Ma'arif Education and Research Centre in Mumbai, which imparts English language and research skills to madrasa students. The AIUDF won the Dhubri Zilla Parishad by a thumping majority, in March 2013. It defeated the Congress by bagging 16 ZPCs as against 10 ZPCs won by the Congress. The AIUDF facilitates women education by establishing the Mariyam Ajmal Women's College of Science and Technology in Hojai, Assam. The AIUDF has raised the issue of 'good governance' in the state of Assam, by exposing the corruption schemes and the mismanagement of the government funds under the present Congress rule. The AIUDF is determined to show the people of Assam, the "real picture" of the ruling Congress government, by pursuing the transparency of the government as much as possible. The AIUDF has been actively involved in a number of social activities such as ensuring basic immunization, poverty decrease and education policies in the north-eastern states of India.
