Bamboo Design Workshop: 14-17 Feb. 2024.
To conclude the first interaction session between the NID Assam, MAU students and the targeted artisans under the Bamboo Use Promotion Project, the Bamboo Design Workshop and Bamboo Dome Workshop were held at NID Assam, from 14th to 17th February.
Led by seasoned professors and bamboo experts, the workshop delved into various aspects of bamboo product design, from conceptualization to prototyping.
The bamboo dome construction workshop was a unique opportunity for the artisans and students to explore the art and science of building using sustainable materials. Throughout the workshop, the participants learned the intricacies of designing and constructing the dome.
Hands-on sessions at the design workshop allowed students to artisans to bring up the techniques for shaping, bending, and joining the bamboo strips. From simple household items to intricate decorative pieces, and jewelry items the possibilities seemed endless as ideas began to take shape. Collaboration was at the heart of the workshop, with participants exchanging ideas and insights, each contributing their unique perspective to the creative process. It was inspiring to witness the synergy that emerged as individuals from diverse backgrounds came together in pursuit of a common goal: to harness the potential of bamboo for sustainable design.
As the next steps, the Japanese professors and bamboo experts are determined to come up with the improved prototypes of bamboo product designs that will be then mastered by the artisans which will be later exhibited at the fair next year within the country.
