On World Elephant Day, A story of Hope from Assam:

The injured elephant at Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary is gradually recovering. Last year on October 7th a 17-18 years old male elephant from Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary got injured in a clash with another elephant at Narengi Army Cantonment, fracturing its left hind leg.
After knowing about this incident forest department officials immediately reached the spot and informed renowned elephant expert Padmashree Dr. Kushal Konwar Sarma sir and veterinarians at the Assam State Zoo.Following this, expert doctors visited the site, examined the elephant, and determined that its left hind leg was fractured.Without any delay expert doctors provided the treatment and sending the elephant to Assam state zoo.

Under the guidance of expert doctors, forest officials at the Amchang Wildlife Range under the Guwahati Wildlife Division ensured timely administration of medication to the elephant. Given the need for a prolonged recovery period, we requested the forest department to arrange food supplies for the elephant, and they started providing food from October 19. This included wheat, pulses, bananas, pineapples, pumpkins, and more.

As a wildlife enthusiast and elephant lover, We have also been providing food like pumpkins, pineapples, bananas, and jackfruits to the elephant whenever possible. Meanwhile, a team of experts formed by the Chief Wildlife Warden has been monitoring and reviewing the elephant's health and providing timely advice for its recovery.

The injured elephant roams in different areas of the Narengi Army Cantonment and sometimes when it appears in a new location, those people who are unaware of the situation might mistakenly believe it's newly injured and spread misinformation. Despite this, as nature lover, we've been working closely with the forest department to ensure the elephant receives the best possible care.

Although the elephant has shown significant improvement, its recovery is occasionally hindered by other elephants that disturb it. During this time, some kind-hearted locals in areas like Birkuchi, Kalitakuchi, and Amchang have been providing food to the elephant, reflecting their compassion and care. We express our heartfelt gratitude to them.

However, we've been surprised by some individuals spreading misinformation and false claims about the elephant's health. To clarify, as someone with experience working with wildlife and elephants, we've been carefully involved in the elephant's welfare. Unfortunately, some people have been spreading false information against the Assam government and forest department.

We urge everyone to refrain from spreading misinformation and instead pray for the elephant's speedy recovery under the expert care of Padmashree Dr. Kushal Konwar Sarma sir.

On this World Elephant Day, We are happy to share that under the leadership of Assam's Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma sir, not only human resources but also forest resources and wildlife are protected in Assam. The government has done a commendable job in ensuring the recovery of this wild elephant.

We are grateful to the Hon'ble Chief Minister sir for his leadership, which has ensured the safety of approximately 5828 elephants in Assam's forests, allowing them to roam freely without fear.

We’ve attached video with this post, one taken shortly after the injury and another recent one, for your reference.
