TOEFL scholarship 2014 announced for Indian students

The annual TOEFL scholarship has been announced by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The scholarship is offered to 10 meritorious Indian students who have exceptional academic performance, leadership skills and excel in English communication.

Only candidates who have a grade point average of 80 or more on a 100-point scale or 3.0 or higher on a 4-grade point scale, with a valid TOEFL score, are eligible, according to Jennifer Brown, Executive Director of the programme. The selected 10 students will be awarded $7,000 which the students can later use for their undergraduate and graduate studies. The selected candidates will be required to begin their study between August 2014 and December 2015 at a university or college which is listed in the TOEFL destinations directory. Brown added that, “In the last four years, $2, 40,000 has been distributed in scholarship to students in India.”

About TOEFL TOEFL or Test of English as a Foreign Language is a standardized test of English for academic purposes, and is commonly used in university programs as a benchmark of proficiency in English for entrance requirements. TOEFL is a basic requirement for assessing proficiency in the English language (as is spoken in North America) of all those who wish to apply for higher studies in the US and whose native language is not English. One required the TOEFL scores while applying for undergraduate and postgraduate studies. The new TOEFL – iBT is a linear and computer adaptive test. The new TOEFL iBT tests all four language skills that are important for effective communication; speaking, listening, reading and writing. There is no longer a structure section. Grammar is tested on questions and tasks in each section. As many as 9,000 institutions in 130 countries recognize TOEFL scores for assessment of English proficiency.
