A One-Day Capacity Building Workshop on “AI Tools for Productivity Enhancement in Scientific, Technical, and Administrative Workflows” is being organized by Assam State Space Application Centre (ASSAC) on 5th January, 2026 at the Bigyan Bhawan Conference Room / Sikshan Kendra, in collaboration with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Guwahati for the Officials of department of Science and Technology. The workshop aims to familiarize participants with practical AI tools and techniques that can enhance efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making across scientific, technical, and administrative domains. Through expert-led sessions and demonstrations, the programme will highlight real-world applications of AI to streamline workflows and improve organizational productivity.

The ASSAC team successfully participated in the ISG–ISRS National Symposium 2025 held from 24–27 November. The symposium provided an insightful platform to engage with experts, explore emerging innovations in remote sensing and GIS, and strengthen collaboration across the geospatial community. A key highlight of the event was the inspiring talk by Group Captain P.B. Nair (Astronaut) on Developing an Astronaut Mindset, which offered a powerful perspective on discipline, resilience, and high-performance thinking. The experience enriched our technical understanding and reaffirmed our commitment to advancing impactful geospatial solutions for the development of Assam.

A workshop on Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) and their applications was conducted on 15th November 2025 at the Conference Hall, Bigyan Bhawan, Guwahati. The event was organized by Assam State Space Application Centre (ASSAC) in collaboration with Survey of India (SOI).

The workshop focused on introducing the CORS network, its technological framework, and its importance in achieving high-precision geospatial positioning. Experts from the Survey of India delivered sessions on GNSS-based surveying, RTK/Network RTK solutions, and the role of CORS in enhancing accuracy for mapping, infrastructure planning, land management, and disaster response.

Officials and technical representatives from various user departments of the Government of Assam—including departments involved in land records, APRO, Disaster Management, Water Resources, Urban Development etc actively participated in the programme.

ASSAC Signed an MOU with Cotton University on 12-08-2025
The scope of collaboration on academic and research activities in this Memorandum of Understanding includes the following:
• Training, capacity building activities either at ASSAC or at Cotton University mainly for the benefit of Line Departments, academia and industry
• Student internships.
• Organization of joint conferences, workshops, and seminars.
• Joint guidance of projects/research work carried out by Cotton University and ASSAC personnel in all areas of national interest on mutually agreeable terms.
• Student Training on GIS/Remote Sensing
• All other relevant activities of mutual interest as and when agreed upon.

A Regional Meet on Leveraging Space Technology Applications for Viksit Bharat 2047 was held on June 24, 2025, at the Brahmaputra Auditorium, Assam Water Centre, Basistha, Guwahati. The event was jointly organized by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC), in collaboration with the Assam State Space Application Centre (ASSAC).

The meet focused on harnessing space technology to support the national vision of a developed India by 2047. Shri Keshab Mahanta, Hon’ble Minister, Science and Technology Department, Government of Assam, attended as the Chief Guest, alongside Dr. J. V. Thomas, Director, EDPO, ISRO.

Delegates from all eight North Eastern States participated in the event, which provided a platform to discuss regional priorities and collaborative opportunities in the application of space-based technologies for sustainable development and governance in the North East.

Assam Science and Technology Minister Keshab Mahanta held a high-level meeting with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman Dr. V. Narayanan in Dispur on 1st April 2025 evening.

The meeting saw participation from top officials, including Special Chief Secretary (Environment and Forests) M.K. Yadav, Principal Secretary (Chief Minister’s Office) K.K. Dwivedi, Principal Secretary (Revenue) G.D. Tripathi, Secretary (Science and Technology) Pallav Gopal Jha, and Special Secretary & Director of Assam State Space Application Center (ASSAC) P.L.N. Raju. Representatives from key departments such as Agriculture, Water Resources, and Urban Affairs were also present.

On the ISRO side, the meeting was attended by Director of ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network Dr. A.K. Anil Kumar, Director of Earth Applications and Disaster Management Support Program Dr. J.V. Thomas, and Director of ISRO’s North East Space Applications Center (NESAC) Dr. S.P. Aggarwal.

The discussions focused on the use of space technology for good governance as well as the development and launch of Assam’s first-ever satellite, ‘AssamSat’, aimed at boosting the state’s capabilities in agriculture, disaster management, and urban planning.

A consultative meeting on Operation Dronagiri and Geospatial Data - Sharing Interface (GDI) under National Geospatial Policy 2022 in Kamrup Metro and Kamrup districts of Assam, was held at ASSAC on 25th March 2025. The event was chaired by Shri Srikant Sastri, Chairman, Geospatial Data Promotion and Development Committee (GDPDC). The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Mohan Kumar Stalin, Additional Surveyor General (Eastern Zone) SoI and the Inaugural Address was delivered by Shri. Summit Satttawan, IAS, District Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan, Assam and Shri PLN Raju, Director,ASSAC.

The event highlighted crucial advancements in geospatial initiatives, fostering collaboration for a smarter and more efficient geospatial ecosystem.

We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the 5th edition of the Space Applications Adoption Workshop (SAAW) held at Assam Water Centre, Guwahati, on January 29-30, 2025

Organized by IN-SPACe in collaboration with Assam State Space Application Centre (ASSAC) this workshop brought together key government departments, industry leaders, startups, and ISRO experts to explore the transformative potential of space technology in governance, productivity, sustainability, and decision-making.

The discussions focused on accelerating the adoption of geospatial and satellite-based solutions for socio-economic development and enhancing operations across various sectors in Assam. With interactive sessions, expert insights, and innovative solutions, this event marked a significant step toward leveraging space technology for the state’s growth and progress.
