Assamโs Peehu Kumari and Nayatri Chetia have been selected by the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) through its Taekwondo Talent Hunt Programme, marking a major milestone in their sporting journey. Both athletes were part of the High Performance Taekwondo Training Camp organised earlier this year under the expert guidance of Jade Jones, two-time Olympic Champion in Taekwondo, alongside Gary Hall MBE, High Performance Director at Inspire Institute of Sport, and Jaouad Achab of Belgium, European and World Champion in Taekwondo.
Adding to the pride, Assamโs Rodali Barua has also been selected by IIS and will undergo further elite-level training as part of the programme.
The trio impressed during the talent identification initiative and earned selection for advanced international exposure and training programmes at IIS.

An MoU was signed between the Department of Sports & Youth Welfare, Sports Authority of Assam (SAA), and Cotton University regarding the utilisation of the badminton facility at the Cotton University campus.
The agreement was formally signed between the Secretary, Sports Authority of Assam, and the Registrar, Cotton University, marking a collaborative effort to promote structured training, athlete development, and greater sporting opportunities for students and young players.
This initiative reflects the continued commitment towards creating accessible and quality sports infrastructure across educational institutions in Assam and fostering a stronger sporting ecosystem for the youth of the state.

Following the vision of creating world-class sports infrastructure across the state, the Department of Sports & Youth Welfare, Assam, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), is set to develop the Amingaon Swimming Complex into a High Performance Swimming Centre.
The initiative aims to transform swimming in Assam through scientific coaching, advanced training systems, sports science support, recovery and performance monitoring, along with a structured residential training programme for promising athletes.
The proposed centre will focus on nurturing young swimmers from Assam and the Northeast, creating a pathway from grassroots development to national and international excellence.
Under the visionary leadership of Honโble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam continues to move forward in building a strong and sustainable high-performance sports ecosystem for the youth of the state.

Following the formation of the new Government of Assam, the Department of Sports & Youth Welfare, Assam, in collaboration with JSW Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS), has proposed the Elite Medal Pathway Scholarship Programme at Sualkuchi Sports Complex to nurture young talent and create a clear pathway for athletes to excel at national and international levels.
The initiative will focus on Athletics, Judo, and Taekwondo with world-class coaching, sports science support, recovery systems, performance analysis, and structured athlete development programmes designed to shape future champions from Assam and the Northeast.
Under the visionary leadership of Honโble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam continues to move towards creating modern sports infrastructure and high-performance opportunities for the youth of the state.

Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports Smt. .khadse visited the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) Assam and the High Performance Centre in Guwahati, interacting with young athletes, coaches, and sports science professionals shaping the future of Indian sports. ๐ฎ๐ณ๐
The visit highlighted the growing integration of sports science, recovery systems, performance analysis, and athlete-focused training infrastructure in the Northeast โ a significant step towards building a stronger sporting ecosystem under the visionary leadership of Honโble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji.
She was accompanied by Shri Kausar Jamil Hilaly, Special Secretary, Department of Sports & Youth Welfare; Shri Ankur Bharali, Director, Department of Sports & Youth Welfare; Shri D.K. Day 1 of the All Assam Inter Institutional Taekwondo Championship 2026 kicked off with great energy and enthusiasm at Dr. T. Ao Indoor Stadium, Cotton University. ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Around 275 players from nearly 60 educational institutions across Assam came together to showcase their discipline, determination, and fighting spirit on the mat.
Shri Ankur Bharali, Director of Sports & Youth Welfare, Assam, attended the event as a guest on behalf of the department, encouraging the young athletes and appreciating the growing spirit of martial arts in the state.

The 49th All Assam State Chess Championship 2026 (Under-7 Boys & Girls) commenced at Brahmaputra Valley English Academy, Bongara, bringing together talented young chess players from across the state.
