Today on World Health Day, we are highlighting the impact of climate change on our health focussing on this year’s theme “Together for health. Stand with Science”.
As per the reports of the World Health Organization, nearly 7 million annual deaths are reported globally, underscoring the urgent need for cleaner energy and sustainable practices. Today, the changing climate has turned out to be one of the greatest threats to human health. Rising temperatures, extreme events like floods and heatwaves, and increasing air pollution are affecting millions of lives every year, directly impacting human health and livelihoods. From the spread of diseases like malaria and dengue to growing risks of respiratory and heart conditions, the impacts are real and urgent.
Let’s commit to mitigating the ongoing climate change and make our health systems climate-resilient.

The theme of World Water Day 2026 - Water and Gender, highlight a reality we can no longer ignore, access to water is linked to gender equality.
1.8 billion people acrosss the globe still do not have drinking water at home. In 2 out of 3 households, women and girls are primarily responsible for collecting water. This time-consuming task limits their access to education, livelihoods, and opportunities, while also affecting their health and safety.
As we observe this day, let's recognize that ensuring safe and equitable water access is not just about infrastructure, it is about building a more just and inclusive future for all. Let’s commit to closing this water gap.

Wild species across the globe are facing an unprecedented crisis and are threatened with extinction due to habitat loss, climate change, invasive species, and pollution. From iconic megafauna to lesser-known arthropods and plants, biodiversity is declining at an alarming rate.
In ecologically sensitive Assam which is home to the Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros and the Asian Elephant, increasing climate stress and human encroachment further intensify risks to wildlife survival.
World Wildlife Day 2026 with its theme, “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihood,” highlights the importance of wild plants in supporting healthcare systems, cultural traditions, and local economies, while calling for urgent action against overharvesting, habitat degradation, and climate change.
This World Wildlife Day 2026, let us pledge to protect habitats, restore wetlands and forests, reduce our ecological footprint, and promote harmonious coexistence with nature. Every responsible action we take today will help safeguard our natural heritage for generations to come.

The theme of this year’s World Wetlands Day, "Wetlands and traditional knowledge: Celebrating cultural heritage", reminds us that for generations, communities have lived in harmony with wetlands using traditional knowledge to manage water, harvest resources sustainably and protect biodiversity.
These practices are deeply rooted to our cultural heritages and offer valuable lessons for climate resilience today.
For generations, population in Assam, especially the residence of floodplains has lived in harmony with wetlands and is intertwined for their culture, traditions, and livelihoods.
As climate change intensifies, in the state, recognising and strengthening indigenous and local knowledge systems along with scientific studies are essential for not only conserving wetlands and sustaining livelihoods but also for combating disasters.
Assam State Action Plan for Climate Change (ASAPCC) recognizes the conservation of wetland as a major strategy to counter climate change impacts, and to protect and preserve these biodiversity hotspots.
Let's join hands to conserve, preserve and protect the Wetlands of Assam.
