बाँसा लाइब्रेरी में किताबें अक्सर उन बातचीतों की शुरुआत बन जाती हैं, जो उनके पन्नों से बहुत आगे तक जाती हैं। एक ही जगह पर बच्चे, युवा और बड़े साथ बैठते हैं, सुनते हैं, सवाल पूछते हैं, असहमत होते हैं, सोचते हैं और अपने जीवन के अनुभव साझा करते हैं।

ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में ऐसे स्थान और भी महत्वपूर्ण हो जाते हैं, क्योंकि यहाँ बहुत कम जगहें हैं जहाँ अलग-अलग पीढ़ियों के लोग खुलकर साथ बैठ सकें, बात कर सकें और एक-दूसरे से सीख सकें। स्कूल और घरों के बाहर ऐसे सार्वजनिक स्थान लगभग नहीं के बराबर हैं, जो जिज्ञासा, संवाद और सामूहिक सोच को जगह दें।

इसीलिए निःशुल्क सामुदायिक पुस्तकालय इतने महत्वपूर्ण बन जाते हैं। वे ऐसे खुले और सुलभ स्थान बनाते हैं जहाँ कोई भी व्यक्ति, उम्र, पृष्ठभूमि या आर्थिक स्थिति की परवाह किए बिना, आ सकता है, जुड़ सकता है और अपनी भागीदारी महसूस कर सकता है। धीरे-धीरे पुस्तकालय सिर्फ किताबों की जगह नहीं रहते, बल्कि संवाद, कल्पना, आत्मविश्वास और समुदाय के स्थान बन जाते हैं।

कई बार पढ़ने का सबसे खूबसूरत हिस्सा सिर्फ किताब नहीं होती, बल्कि वे बातचीतें होती हैं जो किताबें पीछे छोड़ जाती हैं।

At Bansa Library, books often become the beginning of conversations that travel far beyond their pages. Around the same table, children, young people, and adults come together to listen, question, disagree, reflect, and share experiences from their own lives.

In rural areas, spaces like these become even more important because there are so few places where people across generations can simply gather to think, speak, and learn together. Outside of schools or homes, there are very limited public spaces that encourage open conversations, curiosity, and collective reflection. This is why free community libraries become so important. They create accessible, welcoming spaces where anyone, regardless of age, background, or income, can walk in, belong, and participate. Libraries slowly become much more than rooms with books, they become spaces of dialogue, imagination, confidence, and community.

बांसा लाइब्रेरी में मदर्स डे सिर्फ एक उत्सव नहीं है, बल्कि एक जगह बनाने की कोशिश है। ऐसी जगह, जहाँ गाँव की महिलाएँ अपनी रोज़मर्रा की ज़िम्मेदारियों और कामों से थोड़ी देर बाहर निकलकर साथ बैठ सकें। बातें कर सकें, हँस सकें, सुन सकें, कहानियाँ बाँट सकें, और धीरे-धीरे अपने लिए थोड़ा समय फिर से महसूस कर सकें।

यहाँ कई महिलाओं के लिए लाइब्रेरी अब सिर्फ किताबों से भरा कमरा नहीं रह गई है। यह दोस्ती, अपनापन और सुकून की जगह बन गई है। एक ऐसी जगह जहाँ कहानियाँ मिलकर पढ़ी जाती हैं, बातचीत बिना किसी डर या झिझक के आगे बढ़ती है, और दोपहरें साथ बिताते हुए अपनेपन से भर जाती हैं।

कुछ महिलाएँ अपने बच्चों के साथ आती हैं, कुछ शुरुआत में चुप और संकोच में रहती हैं, और कुछ पढ़ने के सत्र खत्म होने के बाद भी देर तक बैठी रहती हैं, उन बातों को आगे बढ़ाते हुए जिन्हें शायद कहीं और जगह नहीं मिलती।

इस मदर्स डे पर हमने सिर्फ मातृत्व का नहीं, बल्कि उस खूबसूरत समुदाय का भी उत्सव मनाया जो तब बनता है जब महिलाएँ कहानियों, एक-दूसरे, और देखे-सुने जाने की छोटी-सी खुशी के आसपास इकट्ठा होती हैं।

क्योंकि कई बार, एक कम्युनिटी लाइब्रेरी उन बहुत कम जगहों में से एक बन जाती है जहाँ महिलाएँ थोड़ी देर ठहर सकती हैं, साँस ले सकती हैं, और अपने होने को महसूस कर सकती हैं।

At Bansa Library, Mother’s Day is not just about celebration, it is about creating space. A space where women from the village step out of routines and responsibilities for a little while and simply sit together. They talk, laugh, listen, share stories, and slowly rediscover time for themselves.

For many women here, the library has become more than a room full of books. It has become a place of friendship, comfort, and belonging. A place where stories are read aloud, conversations unfold without judgement, and afternoons are spent together in warmth and care.

Some come with their children, some come shy and quiet at first, and some stay back long after the reading circle ends, continuing conversations that rarely find space elsewhere.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrated not only mothers, but the gentle community that forms when women gather around stories, around each other, and around the simple joy of being seen and heard.

Because sometimes, a community library becomes one of the few places where women are allowed to pause, breathe, and belong.

April was a full and tender month at Bansa. The summer arrived in full force, but so did our community, showing up for one another in the most beautiful ways. Our Comic Corner, which has quickly become a favourite among our younger readers, took pop-up library sessions out into the villages around Bansa, and watched the women of our community pick up their pens at our Hindi Writing Workshop, writing, singing, and claiming the space on their own terms. In numbers: 714 books issued, 430+ visitors, 193 new books added, and 45 new members welcomed into the Bansa family, including 16 competitive exam aspirants preparing for life-changing opportunities right here in their village.

लंबे समय तक यहाँ पढ़ना सिर्फ़ ज़रूरत और संघर्ष से जुड़ा हुआ था। किताबों का मतलब था पाठ्यपुस्तकें, गाइड, परीक्षा पत्र, और अच्छे अंक, नौकरी या प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं के लिए लगातार “पढ़ाई” का दबाव। बांसा और आसपास के गाँवों के कई बच्चों और युवाओं के लिए अकादमिक किताबों के अलावा किसी और तरह की किताबों तक पहुँच लगभग नहीं थी। ऐसे बहुत कम स्थान थे जहाँ पढ़ना धीमा, आनंदपूर्ण, जिज्ञासापूर्ण या व्यक्तिगत अनुभव हो सके।

लेकिन अब बांसा कम्युनिटी लाइब्रेरी में एक शांत लेकिन बेहद महत्वपूर्ण बदलाव दिखाई दे रहा है।

जो बच्चे पहले सिर्फ़ पढ़ाई की सामग्री खोजने आते थे, वे अब साथ बैठकर कहानी की किताबें, कॉमिक्स, चित्र पुस्तकों और उपन्यासों के पन्ने पलटते हैं। वे इसलिए नहीं पढ़ रहे क्योंकि किसी ने कहा है, बल्कि इसलिए क्योंकि वे जानना चाहते हैं कि आगे क्या होने वाला है। पात्रों, विचारों और कल्पनाओं को लेकर बातचीतें बन रही हैं। लाइब्रेरी धीरे-धीरे पढ़ने के अर्थ को बदल रही है, सिर्फ़ परीक्षा से जुड़ा काम नहीं, बल्कि ऐसा अनुभव जो सुकून, उत्साह, आश्चर्य और साथ महसूस करा सके।

तस्वीर में यह बदलाव छोटा लग सकता है, लेकिन उन समुदायों में जहाँ किताबों तक पहुँच हमेशा सीमित रही है, यह बेहद गहरा और महत्वपूर्ण है। पढ़ने की संस्कृति एक दिन में नहीं बनती। वह पन्ना दर पन्ना, गोष्ठी दर गोष्ठी, और बच्चे दर बच्चे विकसित होती है।

For a long time, reading here was tied almost entirely to survival. Books meant textbooks, guidebooks, exam papers, and the pressure to 'study' for marks, jobs, and competitive exams. For many children and young people in villages around Bansa, access to books beyond academics simply did not exist. There were very few spaces where reading could be slow, joyful, curious, or personal.

What we are witnessing now at Bansa Community Library is a quiet but meaningful shift.

Children who once came only looking for study material now sit together turning pages of storybooks, comics, picture books, and novels. They are reading not because someone asked them to, but because they want to know what happens next. Conversations are forming around characters, ideas, and imagination. The library is slowly changing the meaning of reading itself, from a task connected only to exams, into something that can also bring comfort, excitement, wonder, and companionship.

This change may look small in a photograph, but in communities where access to books has always been limited, it is deeply significant. A reading culture does not appear overnight. It grows page by page, circle by circle, child by child.

बांसा लाइब्रेरी बातचीत किताबों तक सीमित नहीं रहती। यह असली ज़िंदगी तक जाती है, पहचान, समाज, बराबरी और उन रोज़मर्रा के अनुभवों तक, जिन्हें लोग अक्सर कह नहीं पाते। असहमति भी होती है, विचार टकराते भी हैं, लेकिन हर बार कुछ गहरा बनता है, आत्मविश्वास, समझ और अपनी आवाज़ रखने का साहस।

In a village where voices are often held back, this circle becomes a rare, powerful space, where young people and community members sit as equals, speak without fear, and listen without judgement.

Here, conversations don’t stay within books. They move into real lives, into questions of identity, society, fairness, and the everyday realities people carry but rarely get to share. Disagreements happen, perspectives collide, but something deeper is built each time: confidence, empathy, and the courage to have a voice.

एक घेरा बनता है, एक कॉमिक खुलती है, और देखते ही देखते लाइब्रेरी का कमरा कहानियों में घुल जाता है। इस पल में एक कोमलता है, सिर थोड़ा और पास आते हैं, आँखें हर पन्ने के साथ चलती हैं, और हँसी एक साथ खिल उठती है। लाइब्रेरियन पढ़ती हैं, पर कहानी उस घेरे में बैठे हर बच्चे की हो जाती है।

यहीं से पढ़ना शुरू होता है, एक काम की तरह नहीं, बल्कि साझा खुशी की तरह। किताबों के प्रति एक शांत, गहरा प्रेम, जो ऐसे छोटे-छोटे, गर्मजोशी भरे पलों में आकार लेता है।

हमारा कॉमिक कॉर्नर भी ऐसा ही एक कोना है, जहाँ बच्चे बार-बार लौटते हैं, थोड़ा और पास बैठते हैं, और हर बार कहानियों में खुद को ढूंढ लेते हैं।

A circle forms, a comic opens, and just like that, the common room of Bansa Library softens into stories. There’s something gentle about this moment: heads leaning closer, eyes following each page, laughter arriving at the same time. The librarian reads, but the story belongs to everyone in the circle. This is how reading begins, not as a task, but as a shared joy. A quiet, growing love for books, held together in small, warm moments like these.

We’re deeply thankful to The Kutumb Foundation and Free Libraries Network - FLN for making this possible, helping us create a corner where stories are not just read, but felt, shared, and cherished.

मार्च की मंथली अपडेट रिपोर्ट

अगर मार्च के महीने को लाइब्रेरी के लिए किसी एक शब्द में बताना हो, तो वो शब्द है 'समुदाय', अपने सबसे असली और जीवंत रूप में। इस महीने हमने देखा कि कैसे महिलाएँ अब बिना किसी झिझक के लाइब्रेरी आ रही हैं और इस जगह को अपना मान रही हैं। हमने उन युवाओं को देखा जो अपने सपनों को पूरा करने के लिए देर शाम तक पढ़ाई में डूबे रहे। और सबसे प्यारा नज़ारा वो था, जब बड़े स्टूडेंट्स और परीक्षा की तैयारी करने वाले साथी खुद आगे आए और छोटे बच्चों के साथ बैठकर उन्हें होमवर्क कराने और पढ़ने में मदद करने लगे। इसके लिए हमने कोई प्लानिंग नहीं की थी, ये बस अपने आप शुरू हो गया, और शायद सबसे अच्छी चीज़ें ऐसे ही शुरू होती हैं।

Monthly Update Report for March

If one word defined March at Bansa Community Library, it was community, in the truest, most lived sense of the word. This month, we watched women walk through our doors with new ease and make the space their own. We watched aspirants prepare late into the evening for the opportunity of their lifetime. And we watched, quietly moved, as student leaders and older aspirants began sitting beside the younger children on their own accord, helping them with homework, reading, and fluency. Nobody designed this. It simply began, the way the best things often do.

- A few highlights from the month:
Launched our Hindi Writing Workshop with Lampshade Writers, a six-week space under our Women Readership Enhancement Project where women are learning to write and tell their own stories, many for the very first time.
- Issued 893 books, welcomed 670+ visitors, and added 33 new children and 8 new aspirants to the Bansa family.
- Received 145 new books to support our growing community of learners and exam aspirants.

बाँसा कम्युनिटी लाइब्रेरी में किताबें सिर्फ अल्मारियों में बैठकर इंतज़ार नहीं करतीं। कभी-कभी, वे सफर पर निकल पड़ती हैं।

पास के मज़रों और गाँवों में, जहाँ महिलाओं और बच्चों के लिए लाइब्रेरी की मुख्य इमारत तक पहुँचना आसान नहीं होता, वहाँ लाइब्रेरी खुद उन तक पहुँच जाती है। एक छोटा सा आँगन, एक सायेदार कोना या कोई उधार ली हुई जगह, बस कुछ घंटों के लिए यह सब पढ़ने, सुनने और कल्पनाओं में खो जाने का ठिकाना बन जाते हैं।

कहानियाँ बोलकर सुनाई जाती हैं। छोटे बच्चे आँखें फाड़े बड़े ध्यान से सुनते हैं और उत्सुकता से पूछते हैं, "फिर आगे क्या हुआ?"। बड़े बच्चे किताबें उठाकर छोटों को पढ़कर सुनाते हैं। महिलाएँ आपस में बातें करती हैं, कभी कहानी को लेकर, कभी अपने दिनभर के कामों को लेकर, तो कभी उन बातों को लेकर जो उन्होंने पहले कभी खुलकर नहीं कहीं। वहाँ खिलखिलाहट होती है, खेल होते हैं, पन्नों के बीच अंताक्षरी चलती है, 'शब्द पहचानो' के खेल होते हैं और छोटी-छोटी कविताओं पर सब साथ मिलकर हँसते हैं। किसी को चित्रकारी करनी होती है, तो किसी को बस एक और आखिरी कहानी सुननी होती है।

ये 'पॉप-अप' सत्र छोटे और अस्थायी होते हैं। लेकिन एक दोपहर के बीच में, एक ऐसे गाँव में जहाँ किताबें कम ही दिखती हैं, ये सत्र खामोशी से दुनिया के नए दरवाज़े खोल देते हैं। खास तौर पर उनके लिए, जो दूरी या घर की ज़िम्मेदारियों की वजह से अक्सर पढ़ने की जगहों से दूर रह जाते हैं।

बाँसा कम्युनिटी लाइब्रेरी में हमारा मानना है कि किताबों तक पहुँच दूरी की मोहताज़ नहीं होनी चाहिए। अगर वे लाइब्रेरी तक नहीं आ सकते, तो लाइब्रेरी उन तक जाएगी।

At Bansa Library, books don’t always wait on shelves. Sometimes, they travel.

In nearby mazras and villages, where women and children cannot easily reach our physical space, the library finds its way to them. A courtyard, a shaded corner, a borrowed space, for a few hours, each becomes a place to read, listen, and imagine.

Stories are read aloud. Little ones lean in, wide-eyed, asking what happens next. Older children pick up books and read to the younger ones. Women talk, sometimes about the story, sometimes about their day, sometimes about things they've never said out loud before. There's laughter. There are games, antakshari between pages, quick rounds of guess-the-word, silly rhymes that have everyone giggling. Someone always wants to draw. Someone always wants one more story.

These pop-up sessions are small and temporary. But in the middle of an afternoon, in a village that rarely sees books, they quietly open up a whole world, especially for those often left out of reading spaces because of where they live or what their day demands of them.

At Bansa Community Library, we strongly believe that access should never depend on distance. If they can’t come to the library, the library goes to them.

काफी समय से लाइब्रेरी में चल रही ग्रामर (व्याकरण) की कक्षाएं चुपचाप बच्चों के भविष्य को संवार रही हैं।

समय के साथ, हमने देखा है कि बच्चे अब अपनी बात बेहतर ढंग से रख पाते हैं, पढ़ने और बोलने में उनका आत्मविश्वास बढ़ा है, और वे कक्षा के अंदर और बाहर अधिक उत्साह से भाग लेने लगे हैं। व्याकरण के एक साधारण पाठ के रूप में शुरू होने वाली यह यात्रा, धीरे-धीरे बच्चों की आवाज़, कल्पना और आत्मविश्वास का माध्यम बन गई है।

डिजिटल लर्निंग (ऑनलाइन शिक्षा) के जुड़ने से यह पहल और भी प्रभावशाली हो गई है। ऑनलाइन सत्रों के माध्यम से, हमारे जैसे छोटे गाँव के बच्चे भी दूर-दराज के शिक्षकों से जुड़ पा रहे हैं, जिससे भूगोल और पहुँच की बाधाएं खत्म हो गई हैं। यह उनके लिए नई दुनिया, सीखने के नए तरीके और ऐसी संभावनाओं के द्वार खोलता है, जिनसे वे शायद कभी मिल ही नहीं पाते।

बेहद निरंतरता और संवेदनशीलता के साथ, 'लुक फॉरवर्ड फाउंडेशन' (Look Forward Foundation) हर हफ्ते हमारे प्राथमिक स्तर के बच्चों के साथ जुड़ रहा है। वे बच्चों में भाषा की समझ, जिज्ञासा और आत्मविश्वास की एक मजबूत नींव तैयार कर रहे हैं।

Grammar classes have been quietly shaping young minds at Library for a long time now.

Over time, we’ve seen children become more expressive, more confident in reading and speaking, and more willing to participate, both inside and outside the classroom. What begins as a grammar lesson slowly turns into a space for voice, imagination, and self-belief.

What makes this even more powerful is the integration of digital learning. Through online sessions, children in a small village like ours are able to connect with educators beyond their immediate surroundings, breaking barriers of geography and access. It opens up new worlds, new methods of learning, and new possibilities they may not have otherwise encountered.

With incredible consistency and care, the Look Forward Foundation continues to show up for our primary group learners, week after week, building confidence, curiosity, and a strong foundation in language.
