Survey of India, Hyderabad Campus
The Surveyor General of India, Shri S. K. Sinha, visited the Survey of India Hyderabad Campus on 22nd and 23rd May 2026.
During the visit, he interacted with officers and staff of various offices at the Hyderabad Campus and reviewed ongoing activities, institutional initiatives, and advancements in geospatial technologies and capacity building.
The Surveyor General also visited different locations within the campus to observe the infrastructure development works and cleanliness initiatives being undertaken across the premises.
During the visit, the SGI emphasized the importance of strengthening organizational efficiency, technological advancement, and future geospatial initiatives within the Survey of India.

Successful Completion – Course on “Tidal Measurements & Analysis” (Course No. 675.02)
18–22 May 2026
NIGST successfully conducted a training programme at Gujarat, Daman & Diu Geospatial Directorate on “Tidal Measurements & Analysis” for Survey of India officers, focusing on strengthening technical understanding and practical skills in tidal observations and analysis used in hydrographic and geodetic applications.
Key learning areas included:
• Types of tide gauges & their applications
• Working principles of tidal measurement systems
• Tide data acquisition methodologies
• Tide data processing & analysis techniques
• Practical exposure to operational tidal observation systems
As part of the programme, participants visited Deendayal Port, where they received hands-on exposure to operational tide gauges and live demonstrations.
The programme combined classroom sessions with field-based practical training, enhancing participants’ capabilities in tidal measurements and coastal geospatial observations.

Successful Completion – Special Course on “Overview of Modern Surveying & Mapping Techniques” for Odisha Revenue Officers (ROTI)

NIGST successfully conducted a one-week Special Course on “Overview of Modern Surveying & Mapping Techniques” for 34 Odisha Revenue Officers (ROTI).
The programme provided comprehensive exposure to modern geospatial technologies and surveying methods through a combination of classroom lectures, field demonstrations, and lab sessions.
Key areas covered included:
• Horizontal & Vertical Datum, Map Projection & MSL concepts
• GNSS survey techniques – Static, Kinematic & NRTK methods
• CORS overview and positioning applications
• Total Station concepts & applications
• Drone Photogrammetry & DGCA Guidelines
• Drone image processing & QA/QC of ORI
• Introduction to GIS & hands-on demonstrations using FOSS QGIS
Participants actively engaged throughout the programme and gained valuable practical understanding of modern surveying, mapping, and geospatial workflows.

The National Institute for Geo-Informatics Science & Technology (NIGST), Survey of India successfully conducted a training programme on “Gravity Observations & Adjustment” for officers of the Survey of India from 11 May 2026 to 15 May 2026.
The programme focused on strengthening technical understanding and practical competencies in gravity observations, correction methodologies, and adjustment techniques used in geodetic and geospatial applications.
Key learning areas included:
• Fundamentals of gravity observations
• Gravity corrections and adjustment techniques
• Processing and analysis of gravity datasets
• Hands-on practical sessions using software tools and real datasets
The programme combined theoretical learning with practical applications, enabling participants to enhance their knowledge in advanced geodetic practices and precision geospatial measurements.
Swachhta Pakhwada 2026 at NIGST
01–15 May 2026

NIGST observed Swachhta Pakhwada 2026 with great enthusiasm and commitment towards promoting cleanliness, sustainability, and environmental awareness.
The programme was formally inaugurated on 04 May 2026 with the administration of the Swachhta Pledge under the leadership of Shri G. Varuna Kumar, Additional Surveyor General. Officers, faculty members, staff, and trainees actively participated and reaffirmed their commitment towards a cleaner and healthier environment.
Theme:
“Cleanliness for Health, Sustainability, and Avoidance of Single-Use Plastic”
As part of the observance, several awareness and community-oriented activities were organized, including:
• Essay Writing Competition
• Rally & awareness programme on avoidance of single-use plastics
• Tree sapling plantation drives
• Cleanliness & sustainability awareness activities
The programme concluded successfully on 15 May 2026 in the presence of senior officers, faculty members, staff, and trainees who actively contributed towards the success of the campaign.
NIGST continues to promote environmental responsibility and sustainable living practices towards building a cleaner, greener, and healthier future.

Successful Completion – Soft Skills Training Programme for Officer Surveyors (Batch–VIII, OSP-SGI-13)
11–15 May 2026
NIGST, Hyderabad
The one-week Soft Skills Training Programme for Officer Surveyors (Batch–VIII) was successfully conducted at NIGST with participation of 64 Officer Surveyors from various offices of the Survey of India across the country.
The inaugural session was graced by Shri G. Varuna Kumar, Additional Surveyor General, NIGST; Shri Mahesh Ravindranathan, DSG & Head, Faculty of Topo. & GIS; Shri Pankaj Mishra, DSG (Admn.) & Head, Faculty of P&RS; and Shri D. K. Singh, DSG & Head, Faculty of Geodesy & Director R&D.
The sessions were led by Shri Rajiv Manjhi, IAS, Director, ISTM & Joint Secretary to the Government of India, followed by Shri Deepak Kumar Bist, Joint Director, ISTM, ensuring an engaging and insightful learning experience.
The programme focused on strengthening communication skills, leadership, teamwork, emotional intelligence, time management, financial management, office procedures, CCS Rules, RTI, records management, and disciplinary matters through interactive lectures, discussions, case studies, role plays, and practical exercises.
Participants appreciated the practical relevance and interactive nature of the sessions, expressing high satisfaction with the course content and faculty delivery.
The programme concluded with a Valedictory Session graced by Shri G. Varuna Kumar, Additional Surveyor General; Shri Deepak Kumar Bist, Joint Director, ISTM; Shri Mahesh R., DSG & Head, Faculty of Topo. & GIS; Shri Pankaj Mishra, DSG (Admn.) & Head, Faculty of P&RS; and Shri D. K. Singh, DSG & Head, Faculty of Geodesy & Director R&D.
The programme marked another important step towards enhancing professional excellence, leadership, and interpersonal competencies among Officer Surveyors of the Survey of India.
