In that year, Yataro Iwasaki, the founder of Mitsubishi took a lease of Government-owned Nagasaki Shipyard. and East Japan Heavy-Industries, Ltd.

He named it Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works, and started the shipbuilding business on a full scale.
