B.V.Subba Reddy- Renati RAJA Simham

ుబ్బారెడ్డి) (born 4 July 1903 - died 7 June 1974) was an Indian independence activist, Politician and Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.[1]
He was the son of Ramaswamy Reddy and born at Koilkuntla, Kurnool district on 4 July 1903.He had an elder brother Bollavaram Buchi reddy, and a younger brother Kanala Anki reddy After graduating from Noble College, Machilipatnam in 1926, he had taken the degree in Bachelor of Law from Madras University. Then served as criminal lawyer and earned good name in Kurnool district. Eventually got married to venkata subamma, who gave birth to 1 daughter and 6 sons namely 1-ramaswamy reddy,2-Rama Krishna reddy, 3-Narasimha reddy, 4-raja reddy, 5-Bakta shesha reddy, and 6-Jagadeshwar reddy. Daughter- Naga Lakhmi. He was elected unanimously as the Chairman of Kurnool district Board as a Congress candidate in 1938 and once again in 1949. He had participated in the Individual salt Satyagraha (uppu satyagraham) movement in 1941 and jailed for 6 months. He has also participated in the Quit India movement of 1942 and was arrested and jailed in Tanjore for 3 years. He resigned to Congress party in 1955 and contested independently against Shri Pendekanti venkata subbaiah (congress, Ex Governor of Karnataka , Tamil Nadu, Jammu& Kashmir) which gave a memorable victory to Shri B.V.Subba Reddy, and elected to Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He Rejoined Congress and was elected unanimously from the Koilkuntla constituency in 1962 and 1967. During which he served as Speaker for the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly after the death of the first Speaker Ayyadevara Kaleswara Rao in 1962. He had visited Soviet Russia and London to attended the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in 1965 and 1968. The advent of Telangana agitation during the regime of shri Kasu bramhananda Reddy . the movement which was unstoppable gave a bitter experience in the state and as per the demand of Late Shri Marri Channa Reddy and his colleagues in telangana region Shri Kasu Bramhananda reddy had to resign. The then prime minister Srimathi Indra Gandhi had appointed Shri Pamulaparti V Narasimha Rao from telangana as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, With Shri B.V.Subba Reddy as Deputy chief minister who was till ten Honbl Speaker of AP Assembly representing the remaining Andhra Pradesh on 30th September 1971 TO 2nd -March-1972 [Planning, Roads & Buildings], and again in 20-03-1972 to 18-01-1973[Planning & Highways]. During this period prime minister Srimati Indra Gandhi had attemted to solve the issue of telangana by implementing different formulas to give special privileges to the telangana region inspite of telangana being in a combined state. At the end 5 and/ 6 point formula was announced by the chief minister Shri Pamulaparti V Narasimha Rao, which was stating that the people of telangana would be given the first preference in telangana region including Hyderabad in most of the grounds. This was observed as disrespect in the remaining Andhra Pradesh, as this will make the people of the same state to be as 2nd graded citizens. Following the announcement the state was left in a dilemma.

The Congress MLAs met at Hyderabad to discuss the Five Point Formula of the Prime Minister. P.V.Narasimha Rao announced that the Five Point formula had received the approval of the MLAs
but some Congress MLAs disagreed. Vasantha Nageswara Rao, Kudipidi Prabhakara Rao and Peter Paul Chukka contradicted P.V’s announcement. Though desiring certain clarifications, accepted the Prime Minister’s formula. As deputy chief minister, he, along with Chief Minister P. Narasimha Rao, took out full-page newspaper advertisements promoting peace and urging people to stay calm during the Telangana movement. Battena Subba Rao, one of the Ministers, sent his resignation to the Chief Minister as well as to the Prime Minister. This was followed by the collective resignations of eight other ministers -B.V. Subba Reddy, Vasireddy Krishna Murthy Naidu, Kakani Venkata Ratnam, Sagi Suryanarayana Raju, Basi Reddy, Challa Subba Rayudu, D. Muniswamy and Murthy Raju. Again, on 17th December, there was a huge meeting at Vijayawada. P.V. Narasimha Rao planned a big procession on 24th December in Vijayawada with the support of the Communists so that it could be a counter blow to the separatist movement. Kakani Venkataratnam took it as a challenge and thought it an insult to allow such a procession in the midst of the populistic movement, and insisted upon stopping it. Consequently, in the police firing, eight people were
killed. A little later that night, Kakani passed away. The Andhra Central Working Committee resolved on 26th December, to give a ‘bundh’ call on 2nd January 1973.His position changed when the Jai Andhra movement took off ,He has resigned to his post as deputy chief minister to participate in the jai Andhra Movement on November 1972, on December 31st 1972 shri B.V.Subba Reddy chaired the Andhra maha sabha held at tirupathi and called on for destabilizing the government in order to show the disapproval for retaining mulki rules in a combined state ." Undoubtedly mindful that Andhra was originally created in 1953 after a follower of Mohandas Gandhi, shri Pottishri Ramulu fasted until he died to plead for statehood, and that he declared that if necessary he would immolate himself to achieve the same goal. In a meeting at Kakinada, on 21st January, it was decided to intensify the movement. Subba Reddy said that he would bring revolution, if before 5th February the matter pertaining to a separate Andhra and their resignations from the Congress party was not decided. It was resolved that all the MLAs should submit their resignations. The Leaders like Ranga, Lachanna and Kommareddy Suryanarayana made emotional speeches in a meeting on 26th January on the banks of the river Krishna. The students in a meeting at Nellore on 27th January resolved that the MLAs should resign from the Legislative. Subba Reddy was made Chairman of the Working Committee. When Mrs. Gandhi condemned the movement decisively, the opposition leaders in the
Lok Sabha supported the Andhra Movement. On 7th February, B.V. Subba Reddy received an invitation from Mrs. Gandhi to visit Delhi for talks. Basi Reddy and V. Krishna Murthy Naidu went on
their own accord. Parliament met on 19th February. The MPs who favoured a separate Andhra and the Andhra MPs who announced in Andhra that they would leave the party, sat together in the Parliament. Subba Reddy was once again invited to Delhi by the Prime Minister, B.V. Subba Reddy took an oath that he would not step into Hyderabad till a separate Andhra was achieved. Subba Reddy’s discussions with Mrs. Gandhi did not achieve anything. But gradually the movement started weakening. The Congress Working Committee meeting to be held originally at Tirupathi on 18th March, was shifted to Chittoor. This meeting was held with B.V. Subba Reddy in the Chair. It was resolved to start a new party. With D. Muniswamy as the Chairman, a sub committee was formed to that effect. The NGOs and teachers called off their strikes. The police fired at a meeting of NGOs in Cuddapah where B.V. Subba Reddy was speaking. Subba Reddy was somehow rescued. Nobody took B.V. Subba Reddy’s words seriously when he said that he would go on strike if a separate Andhra was not formed by 2nd October, the birthday of Gandhiji. The intensive Andhra movement led by emotional people, went astray in course of time. After the death Kakani of shri venkatrathnam, the movement was demystified and the strength was lessened for shri B.V.Subba Reddy to lead the movement, people eventually turned silent for such a prolonged movemet, and ill health of Shri B.V.Suba Reddy finally made the movement to evade. Then as per the terms of Gentlemen’s agreemet the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh was made from Telangana region i.e.Shri Jalagam Vengala Rao and Deputy Chief Minister from remaining Andhra Pradesh i.e.Shri B.V.Subba Reddy on 10th December 1973[Food & Agriculture]

Within a period of six months, (7th June, 1974) B.V. Subba Reddy passed away. No one was appointed as the Deputy
Chief Minister after B.V. Subba Reddy’s death. He died in this position on 7 June 1974 in Hyderabad.[2]
Following him, his younger brother shri Kanala Anki Reddy the successor in the National politics, had joined Janata Party which was the only First national party to stand against India National Congress. And was elected to Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. His 3rd son B.Narasimha reddy in the year 1983 contested from the then newly aroused telugudesam party and had won with 59% of votes . His Bronze statue was resurected in Shri B. Subba Reddy Memorial Park at Koilkuntla in Kurnool district on 2nd July 2010 by the then speaker Shri Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy [3] during which the proposal of naming the OWK reservoir as B.V.Subbareddy (BVSR) reservoir was put forward by Shri S.V.Subba Reddy(Ex Minister), Byreddy Sheshashaina Reddy(Ex Minister), Yerasu Prathap reddy(MLA, Srisailam), Gangula prathap Reddy(Ex MP,Nandyal), Byreddy Rajasekar Reddy(Ex MLA, Nandikotkur), and other respected dignitaries. This proposal was supported by shri Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy( Speaker AP Legislative Assemly) and promised that he would do the necessary proceedings which are under his permit.
