NIRDPR Celebrates International Day of Yoga 2026

The NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Hyderabad, celebrated the International Day of Yoga 2026 with enthusiastic participation from faculty members, officers, staff, and students.

The yoga session emphasised the importance of integrating yoga into daily life to enhance physical fitness, mental well-being and emotional balance. Participants performed various yoga asanas and breathing exercises under expert guidance, reaffirming the significance of yoga as a holistic approach to health and wellness.

The NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Hyderabad, is conducting a Leadership Development Programme for Elected Representatives and Officials of the Republic of Maldives from 21 June to 6 July 2026.

The programme is designed to strengthen leadership capacities and enhance understanding of key development themes, including Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), women’s empowerment, climate action, local governance, and sustainable development practices.

The initiative provides a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, mutual learning, and strengthening development cooperation between India and the Maldives.

📢 Training Programme on Climate-Resilient and Carbon-Neutral Planning for Gram Panchayats Commences at NIRDPR

The Centre for Biodiversity, Environmental Upgradation and Built Environment through Panchayats, School of Excellence in Panchayati Raj (SoEPR), NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Hyderabad, inaugurated a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme on “Climate-Resilient and Carbon-Neutral Planning for Gram Panchayats” from 17–19 June 2026.

The programme aims to strengthen the capacities of trainers and practitioners from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to promote climate-responsive planning and action at the Gram Panchayat level.

The inaugural session featured a welcome address by Dr Anjan Kumar Bhanja, Associate Professor & Head, CPRDP & SSD, NIRDPR, followed by a keynote address by Prof. Ravindra S. Gavali, Professor & Head, CNRM, CC&DM, NIRDPR, who highlighted the critical role of Panchayats in addressing climate challenges and advancing sustainable rural development.

Participants are being trained on climate change impacts, climate risk assessment, greenhouse gas management, adaptation and mitigation strategies, ecosystem-based resilience, convergence of government schemes, and preparation of Climate Action Plans for Gram Panchayats.

The programme also includes an exposure visit to Kanha Gram Panchayat, Telangana, a recipient of the Climate Action Special Panchayat Award (CASPA), providing participants with practical insights into successful local climate action initiatives.

The programme is coordinated by Dr J. Saravanan and Ms Indira Prakash Mellam, Centre for Biodiversity, SoEPR, NIRDPR.

A one-day Capacity Building Programme for Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) was successfully organized by NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj in collaboration with National Biodiversity Authority, the State Biodiversity Board, Andhra Pradesh, and the Andhra Pradesh State Institute of Panchayati Raj & Rural Development at the District Panchayat Resource Centre, Eluru, on 17 June 2026.

The programme, coordinated by Dr Surjith Vikraman, trained 43 Panchayat Development Officers on key aspects of biodiversity governance, including the preparation of People’s Biodiversity Registers (PBRs), Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS), conservation planning, sustainable use of biological resources, and local actions for biodiversity conservation.

During the inaugural session, Smt. P. Jagadamba, CEO, Zilla Parishad, West Godavari District, and Sri Mallikarjuna Rao, District Panchayat Officer, Eluru, emphasised the need to strengthen BMCs for effective implementation of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 and the Biological Diversity (Amendment) Act, 2023.

Expert sessions were delivered by Sri B. Janaki Rao, Dr Sara Palaparthy, and Dr A. Satya Gowri, enriching participants' understanding of biodiversity conservation and governance at the grassroots level.

📢 Hands-on Training on Making of Millets and Soya-based Products for SHGs/CRPs under Lakhpati Didi Initiative

The Centre for Innovations and Appropriate Technologies for Skills and Jobs (CIAT&SJ), NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, successfully organised a Hands-on Training on Making of Millets and Soya-based Products for Self-Help Group (SHG) members and Community Resource Persons (CRPs) under the Lakhpati Didi Initiative from 9–13 June 2026 at the Rural Technology Park, Hyderabad.

The training focused on practical skills related to the preparation of nutritious millet and soya-based products, quality control, packaging, branding, value addition, and market opportunities. Participants gained hands-on experience in processing techniques that can help them establish micro-enterprises and enhance household incomes.

The programme aimed to promote nutrition-sensitive livelihoods while creating sustainable income-generating opportunities for rural women. Through demonstrations and practical sessions, participants explored various product innovations and business possibilities based on locally available resources.

NIRDPR continues to support women-led enterprises and livelihood diversification through skill development and entrepreneurship promotion initiatives.

📢 Training of Trainers on Participatory Training Methodology & Training Design Successfully Concluded

The DAY-NRLM Resource Cell, NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, successfully organized a Training of Trainers on Participatory Training Methodology & Training Design for Resource Persons under DAY-NRLM from 3–10 June 2026.

The programme aimed to enhance the knowledge and facilitation skills of resource persons engaged in capacity-building initiatives under DAY-NRLM. Participants were exposed to participatory training approaches, adult learning methodologies, effective communication techniques, session planning, training design, facilitation tools, and experiential learning methods.

The training emphasized learner-centered approaches, enabling resource persons to design and deliver engaging, inclusive, and outcome-oriented training programmes for SHGs, community cadres, and rural development stakeholders.

The programme provided opportunities for hands-on practice, group exercises, presentations, peer learning, and feedback sessions to strengthen the participants’ confidence as trainers and facilitators.

The Centre for PG Studies and Distance Education (CPGS&DE), NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, organised a five-day Training Programme on Business Diversification Opportunities and Best Practices of PACCSs for Presidents, Board of Directors and CEOs of PACCSs and LAMPCSs from 8–12 June 2026.

Sponsored by the Department of Cooperation, Government of Odisha, the programme provided participants with valuable insights into diversification of cooperative business activities, institutional strengthening, governance mechanisms, financial sustainability, and innovative practices adopted by successful cooperatives across the country.

The programme encouraged participants to explore new opportunities for expanding services, improving member benefits, and enhancing the role of PACCSs and LAMPCSs as engines of rural economic growth.

The School of Excellence in Panchayati Raj (SoEPR), NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, organised a two-day National Workshop on Panchayat-led Rural Haat Management for Livelihoods, Own Source Revenue (OSR) and Inclusive Development during 11–12 June 2026.

The workshop brought together policymakers, practitioners, Panchayati Raj representatives, and development professionals to deliberate on strengthening rural haats as vibrant centres of local economic activity. Discussions focused on effective management of rural markets, promotion of livelihoods, enhancement of Panchayats’ Own Source Revenue (OSR), and ensuring inclusive access to market opportunities for farmers, SHGs, artisans, and rural entrepreneurs.

Participants shared experiences, best practices, and innovative models for transforming rural haats into sustainable institutions that contribute to local economic development and improved service delivery.

The celebration brought together participants from Kerala attending ongoing capacity-building programmes, reflecting a shared commitment towards environmental conservation and climate resilience.

A key highlight of the event was the launch of the “Gift a Plant” initiative, encouraging individuals to nurture a living symbol of environmental responsibility. Participants also viewed the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) documentary, which emphasized the importance of adopting sustainable lifestyles and becoming “Pro-Planet Persons.”
