Lions Clubs Observe Vision Service Week 2026 with Cancer Awareness and Free Eye Check-Up Camp at Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School
Imphal, 16 October 2026 : Under Vision Service Week, observed from 8th to 18th October 2026, the Lions Club of Imphal Chanu, Lions Club of Imphal Global, and Lions Club of Imphal Ningol Collective, along with the Lions Club of Imphal Paradise for the eye camp, jointly organised a series of health awareness and service activities at Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School.
As part of the initiative, a Cervical Cancer Awareness Programme was held for around 200 students and staff. The session was led by expert resource person Lion Dr. Elangbam James, who explained the causes, risk factors, warning signs, prevention, HPV vaccination, regular screening, and the importance of early detection of cervical cancer. He also addressed common myths, social stigma, and the need for timely medical consultation.
A Breast Cancer Awareness session was also conducted, focusing on breast self-examination, warning signs, screening, early detection, myths, treatment, and support. The session encouraged participants to adopt preventive practices and seek timely medical advice.
On 16th October 2026, a free eye awareness and check-up camp was held at the same school. The camp was led by Lion Dr. Binata Potshangbam’s team, with technical support from Yaima Eye Hospital. Around 300 students and staff benefited from eye-health awareness, basic eye check-ups, and vision screening. Twenty Lion members actively participated in coordinating and supporting the camp.
Organisers said the combined initiative reflected the true spirit of Lions service and the global cause of Vision, while also promoting health awareness, women’s wellness, and youth welfare. The multi-club collaboration helped reach hundreds of students and staff through the cancer awareness and eye care activities.
The Lions Clubs expressed gratitude to Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School, Yaima Eye Hospital, resource persons, volunteers, and all participants for making the programme successful.
