The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting of KVK, Jorhat was successfully convened on 27.02.2026 at its office premises under the chairmanship of the Director of Extension Education, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat. The meeting witnessed the gracious presence of Dr. Sanjay Kumar Chetia, Director of Research (Agri), Dr. Kartik Neog, Director, CMERTI, Lahdoigarh, Mr. Biswajit Das, Station Director, All India Radio, Jorhat, Registrar and Deputy Registrar, National Institute of Design, Jorhat, DDM, NABARD, Jorhat, District Veterinary Officer, District Fishery Development Officer, representative of District Agriculture officer, representative from ASRLM, representative from NGOs, along with 4 progressive farmer members. During the session, the Action Plan for 2026–27, the Action Taken Report on the previous year’s recommendations, and the Annual Progress Report were comprehensively reviewed and deliberated upon. A publication of VKSA, kharif 2025 was released on the occasion. The house accepted the Action plan presented by Dr. Sanjoy Borthakur, Member Secretary and Senior Scientist and Head KVK Jorhat for implementation during 2026-27.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jorhat successfully organized Kisan Mahotsav cm Exhibition on 23rd December, 2025 at its campus in observance of National Farmers’ Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Choudhury Charan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, revered as a stalwart of farmers’ welfare.
The inaugural session was graced by Shri. Patibra Margherita Ji, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Government of India, as the Chief Guest. The programme was also attended by several eminent dignitaries including Shri Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Kaziranga Parliamentary Constituency, Assam, and Shri Santanu Tamuli, Director, Assam Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation. Other distinguished guests present on the occasion included Dr. Sanjoy Chetia, Director of Research (Agriculture), Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, Dr. Manoranjan Neog, Director of Extension Education, AAU, Jorhat, Smt. Suravi Bhattacharyya, Deputy General Manager, State Bank of India, Dr. Phuleswar Nath, Chief Scientist, Assam Rice Research Institute, Titabar, Shri Debojit Dutta, District Agriculture Officer, Jorhat, Dr Debasish Borah, Chief Agronomist, AICRP on Integrated Farming Systems, AAU and Jorhat, Shri Mantu Das, District Development Manager, NABARD. Scientists from NEIST, Jorhat, RFRI, Jorhat, and representatives of various agriculture and allied departments actively participated in the programme. The event also received wide media coverage with the presence of Shri Biswajit Das, Station Director, All India Radio (AIR), Jorhat, along with other media personnel. All total 16 progressive farmers from Jorhat and Majuli district, 3 NGOs involved in agriculture sector and three schools were honoured during the programme for their contribution towards agriculture. Besides a book entitled “Empowering Rural Assam through Livestock-Based Livelihood" was released. Moreover, honorable minister had inaugurated a bird house as part of agrotourism as well as a museum in presence of all dignitaries for the benefit of all stakeholders.
As part of the celebration, a large-scale exhibition comprising 30 exhibition stalls was organized, with participation from agriculture and allied sector companies, government departments, NGOs, Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), nurseries, and self-help groups (SHGs). The exhibition showcased innovative agricultural technologies, improved inputs, farm machinery, value-added products, and climate-resilient practices, attracting keen interest from the participants.
On the occasion Horticultural Competition was also organised where farmers from Jorhat and Majuli participated in 5 categories (Fruits, Leafy Vegetables, Cole Crops, Fruit Vegetables and Cucurbits) with various exhibits which were inaugurated by the Director of Research, AAU in presence of Director of Extension Education AAU, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Jorhat, DAO Jorhat.
Altogether, 529 farmers, farm women, rural youths, and extension functionaries participated in the programme. The Kisan Mahotsav provided an effective platform for interaction among farmers, scientists, policymakers, and development agencies, thereby strengthening technology dissemination and reinforcing the vision of Choudhury Charan Singh towards empowering India’s farming community.

Empowering farmers, enriching soil! 🌿
KVK Jorhat successfully organized an Awareness-cum-Training Programme on Rabi Oilseeds (toria & groundnut) and Pulses (lentil) cultivation in rice fallow areas at Neulgaon Alengmora, Jorhat on 5th December 2025. The initiative aims to bring nearly 700 bighas of rice fallow areas under productive cultivation during the Rabi season.
The programme was graced by the Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Jorhat; the District Agriculture Officer, Jorhat; and the Agronomy and Soil Science Specialists of KVK Jorhat.
During the programme, farmers were sensitized about the scope and strategies for multiple cropping, efficient use of rice fallow areas, improved agronomic practices and importance of oilseeds and pulses, vegetables to enhance productivity and income.
KVK Jorhat also celebrated World Soil Day 2025, emphasizing the critical role of soil health in sustainable agriculture and long-term food security.

Training-cum-Exhibition Successfully Held Today at KVK Jorhat Under NEH Programme
KVK Jorhat successfully organized a Training-cum-Exhibition programme today in collaboration with the National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms (NBAIM), Mau under the NEH scheme. A total of 321 farmers actively participated in the event.
During the programme Hon’ble MLA of Mariani, Shri Rupjyoti Kurmi, Associate Director of Extension Education, AAU, Dr. Ranjit Kumar Saud, Zila Parishad Chairman, Mr. Surajit Saikia, District Agriculture Officer, Jorhat, Shri Debajit Dutta, Director, AIR Jorhat, Mr. Biswajit Das, Senior Scientist, NBAIM, Dr. Hillol Chakdar
and several other officials and distinguished guests were present.
As part of the programme, the following inputs were distributed among farmers:
✔ 100 vermibeds
✔ 50 sprayers
✔ Packets of enriched vermicompost
The event aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture, enhancing soil health and supporting farmers with improved technologies and essential resources. The enthusiastic participation of farmers made the programme highly impactful.
