“Plastic is harmful and we have to protect ourselves and the environment from it”, rightly mentioned by Annu Avasthi, CleanUpKanpur aims to make Kanpur .

In the line of events ie. Eco Mela and Boat Pe Charcha, we focused on the messaging of how harmful plastic is not just for us but also for the environment. With such strong messaging, we aim to bring a change one day at a time.

We would also like to thank , Kanpur Plastic Warrior, for gracing us with his presence and giving us the lesson of a lifetime by highlighting some of the most important points and encouraging the community to work towards .

Today with the support of Kanpur Nagar Nigam, the CleanUp Kanpur Boat pe Charcha (Ghat pe toh thaat hai) event in line with "Race (Reduction, Awareness, Circular (Solutions), & (Mass) Engagement")" with the goal of eliminating single-use plastics by 2022 has been organised.

This innovative event helped create a unique thought provoking practical perspective to spark discussion on the challenges, solutions and opportunities to tackle the plastic waste menace in Ganga river. The panel consisted of a diverse group from civil society, government stakeholders like Amit singh gaur (Nagar Swasthya Adhikari), famous star and comic Annu Avasti, Sri Krishna from Recykal, Mr. Vidyabhooshan from CEE, Shri Bharat Bhushan an environmental expert and Ms. Saba Khan the Kanpur project lead of GIZ, NGOs like Meri Dharti, Humane Foundation and many others.

All the participants also took an oath to lead a more sustainable life where the 3Rs are followed; Reuse, Reduce, Recycle.

On 3rd July 2022, with the support of Kanpur Nagar Nigam, the CleanUp Kanpur ‘Boat Pe Charcha’ workshop will be held in Parmat Ghat to discuss the technology solutions and community engagement strategies for Single Use Plastic Free UP and Kanpur.

This initiative is part of Kanpur Nagar Nigam’s campaign to make Kanpur Single-use Plastic Free: RACE campaign (Reduction, Awareness, Circular Solutions and Engagement).

This campaign is promoting circular solutions and is also raising awareness on plastic waste through such a fun and interactive method to engage key stakeholders such as municipality, local businesses, waste management companies and community organisations.

On Day 4 (2nd July) of the RACE Campaign, KMC and GIZ India conducted a Plastic Conclave (Royal Cliff Convention Hall) with Technology providers and Domain experts from around the country, and discuss regarding circular economy strategies to strengthen waste management systems in Kanpur.

There was a multi stakeholder panel discussion on enabling impactful change through cross sector collaboration to combat plastic waste, followed by a panel discussion on Technological interventions in combatting plastic waste entering marine systems. The discussions reiterated the importance of strengthening existing municipal systems to handle and recycle plastic waste, and engage community and private sector to prevent littering and consumption of single use plastics.

The panel on impactful change involved representatives from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH India, Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), CEE Group and Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and the panel on circular technological solution involved representatives from Plastic Fisher, Team Recykal, TrashCon, Phool.co, Nova Earth and Shree Shyam packaging.

In Mann Ki Baat programme on All India Radio June 26th 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched on the topic of Waste to Wealth “Kachre se Kanchan”.

Kanpur Nagar Nigam has also taken a similar initiative to innovatively repurpose plastic waste with the installation of Asia's and India's Largest Ludo made from plastic waste, placed in Kargil Park-Kanpur. This has been inaugurated and opened for general public on 2nd July 2022 and made the record in Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records. The dimensions of this giant ludo are 20feet X 20feet, and it is created using 1978 kgs of reject plastic waste by Asha Deep Foundation.

The Chief Guest of the event was Hon’ble MP Shri Devendra Singh ‘Bhole’ and the Guests of Honor were Dr. Raj Shekhar, IAS, Divisional Commissioner Kanpur and Shri Shiva Sharanappa GN , IAS, Municipal Commissioner Kanpur Nagar Nigam.

On 1st July 2022, Kanpur Nagar Nigam launched the CleanUp Kanpur ‘3R Eco Mela’. The Mela was fun, interactive experience to mobilize community support for . Around 11 eco stalls from Green Porch, My Bag, Jhola/Bartan Bank, GYOP, EPR Recycler, De’Dezine, Mitti se mitti tak, Jute for life, Phool, Humane Foundation and Shashwat were setup to demonstrate eco-friendly plastic alternatives lifestyle and products.

Come join us today at 09:30am in Kargil Park for the inauguration of Kachre Se Kanchan park. Kanpur Nagar Nigam has developed Asia's and India's Largest Ludo made from plastic waste, placed in Kargil Park-Kanpur.

This will be inaugurated and opened for general public on 2nd July 2022 and made the record in Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records.

3R Eco Mela was kicked off with a grand oath taking ceremony with KMC Commissioner & officials, community icons, citizens and up-cycling/recycling organisations taking an oath to .
It was followed by various other activities and dance performances to keep the spirits high, fun and interactive along with various stalls on up-cycling/recycling.
