MPEDA RD Bhubaneswar conducted a one-day Capacity Building Training Programme on Biosecurity and Personal Hygiene at๐‘ฒ๐’‰๐’๐’๐’‚ ๐‘ฝ๐’Š๐’๐’๐’‚๐’ˆ๐’†, ๐‘ฒ๐’†๐’๐’…๐’“๐’‚๐’‘๐’‚๐’“๐’‚, ๐‘ถ๐’…๐’Š๐’”๐’‰๐’‚, on 29 September 2026, benefiting 30 SC community aqua farmers and farm workers.

With the support of the Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Odisha, the training covered biosecurity, personal hygiene, disease prevention, BMPs, post-harvest handling, AquaTrace enrolment and antibiotic awareness. Participants also received biosecurity kits and certificates, strengthening their practices towards safe, sustainable and quality aquaculture.

As part of the Swachhata initiative, MPEDAโ€“NETFISH conducted an awareness programme on ๐—ฆ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด๐—น๐—ฒ-๐—จ๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐—ฃ๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฐ at Paradeep Fishing Harbour, Odisha, on 29 September 2026. The programme engaged fishermen, trawler crew, harbour officials and other stakeholders on reducing plastic use, responsible waste disposal, harbour cleanliness and preventing plastic pollution from reaching the sea.

The programme reinforced the message that protecting our oceans begins with responsible practices at our harbours.

The programme focused on marine litter reduction, RRR practices, responsible waste management, and reducing single-use plastics, followed by stakeholder discussions on strengthening hygiene and waste management practices at the harbour.

Empowering Farmers Through Practical Support

The programme highlighted the decline in tuna landings and fish size, stressing the need to avoid juvenile tuna fishing and adopt sustainable fishing practices. Participants were also sensitised on turtle conservation, prevention of IUU fishing, quality enhancement and hygienic catch-handling practices under the MPEDA Tuna Pilot Project. The fishermen agreed to follow good practices, while 15 pairs of PVC hand gloves were distributed to support hygienic fish handling.

MPEDA RD Mangalore conducted an ๐—”๐—ป๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐—ผ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฐ ๐—”๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€ ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ป on 24 September 2026 at Keni Village, Ankola Taluk, Uttara Kannada District, with 17 shrimp farmers and workers. The programme focused on the responsible use of aquaculture inputs and creating awareness about banned antibiotics, their adverse effects on human health, antimicrobial resistance, food safety and the environment. Participants were encouraged to adopt good aquaculture practices, farm hygiene, biosecurity, CAA-certified inputs and traceability through the AquaTrace mobile app to support compliance with export requirements. Awareness brochures on preventing antibiotic abuse were also distributed.

Sessions were held on cleanliness, waste segregation, avoiding littering, reusable products and responsible waste management, with emphasis on reducing plastic litter and protecting the marine environment.
