Ludhiana Police Raid Local Factory, Seize Thousands of Counterfeit T-Shirts and Brand Tags of Zara, Tommy Hilfiger, Hugo Boss, and US Polo Assn
Ludhiana, October 17, 2024 β In a major crackdown on counterfeit goods, Ludhiana Police raided a factory in the city's Industrial Area A, seizing over 5,000 counterfeit T-shirts and hand tags bearing the names of international fashion brands, including Zara, Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, and US Polo Assn. The raid was conducted based on a complaint filed by Harminder Singh, Area Manager of Mediasoft Legal Solutions Services Pvt Ltd, who represents these global brands in India.
The raid, led by SHO Gurjit Singh of Division No. 2 Police Station, was carried out under the direction of the Commissioner of Police. The factory, identified as Vinod Fabricators, was found to be involved in the large-scale production and distribution of counterfeit "first-copy" T-shirts, which were being supplied to markets in Ludhiana and Delhi.
During the operation, the police arrested Hari Lal, the manager of Vinod Fabricators, who was in charge of overseeing the production of the fake goods. The counterfeit items seized included T-shirts and hand tags branded as Zara, Tommy Hilfiger, Hugo Boss, and US Polo Assn., aimed at deceiving customers by mimicking the quality and appearance of genuine products.
Harminder Singh, whose company Mediasoft Legal Solutions Services Pvt Ltd represents several leading fashion brands, expressed relief over the swift action taken by the police. "The production and sale of counterfeit goods not only tarnish the reputation of these global brands but also hurt local businesses that are authorized to sell genuine products. We appreciate the prompt response by Ludhiana Police in tackling this issue," Singh said.
The police are continuing their investigation to identify further links in the counterfeit supply chain and are expected to make more arrests. Authorities have also warned consumers to be cautious while purchasing branded items, particularly from unauthorized dealers.
The Commissioner of Police reiterated the force's commitment to cracking down on intellectual property theft and counterfeit activities that harm both the economy and consumer rights.
