Member countries called for a pragmatic, evidence-based approach, supported by voluntary cooperation and best‑practice sharing, respecting each Member State's national priorities.

During discussions on advancing Social Security and Formalization of Labour Markets at the 2nd BRICS EWG meeting, the BRICS member countries expressed a collective vision for knowledge sharing, peer learning and capacity building through mutual exchange of ideas, challenges and solutions. There was a broad understanding that an incremental expansion of social protection coverage is very much achievable throgh focused and targeted interventions.

Secretary (Labour & Employment) Ms. Vandana Gurnani welcomed delegates from BRICS countries and emphasized the need for collective efforts for promoting adaptable social protection systems, enhancing female labour force participation, developing responsive skill ecosystems and building inclusive digital technologies.

On 04.05.2026, the Regional Labour Institute (RLI), Chennai, under the aegis of DGFASLI, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, successfully conducted an Appreciation Training Programme cm Observational Visit for the M.Sc. Epidemiology and Public Health students from the Department of Epidemiology, The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Guindy, Chennai. A total of around 21 students participated in this half-day training programme at RLI Chennai. The programme aimed to enhance their practical understanding of public health policies, labour legislations, industrial hygiene, occupational health practices, and workplace safety protocols. The students, equipped with strong academic backgrounds in epidemiology, biostatistics, and health policy, were keen to relate their theoretical knowledge to real-world occupational health settings. The training programme also included focused sessions on heat wave awareness, management, and mitigation strategies, emphasizing worker safety and preventive measures in extreme weather conditions. The students actively engaged with experts, demonstrating keen interest and commitment to learning while adhering to all institutional guidelines.
आज दिनांक 04.05.2026 को क्षेत्रीय श्रम संस्थान (RLI), चेन्नई द्वारा, डीजीएफएएसएलआई, श्रम एवं रोजगार मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार के अधीन, महामारी विज्ञान एवं जन स्वास्थ्य (M.Sc. Epidemiology and Public Health) के छात्रों हेतु एक प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम सह अवलोकन भ्रमण आयोजित किया गया। इस कार्यक्रम में लगभग 21 छात्रों ने भाग लिया। यह एक अर्ध-दिवसीय प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम था, जिसका उद्देश्य छात्रों को जन स्वास्थ्य नीतियों, श्रम कानूनों, औद्योगिक स्वास्थ्य, व्यावसायिक स्वास्थ्य प्रथाओं तथा कार्यस्थल सुरक्षा की व्यावहारिक समझ प्रदान करना था। प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम में हीट वेव जागरूकता, प्रबंधन एवं शमन रणनीतियों पर विशेष सत्र भी शामिल थे, जो अत्यधिक तापमान की परिस्थितियों में श्रमिकों की सुरक्षा एवं निवारक उपायों पर केंद्रित थे। छात्रों ने सक्रिय रूप से सहभागिता करते हुए विशेषज्ञों से सीखने में गहरी रुचि दिखाई तथा संस्थान के सभी दिशा-निर्देशों का पालन किया।

The Second BRICS Employment Working Group Meeting will begin in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on May 6, 2026, for a two-day deliberation, carrying forward the momentum generated during the First EWG Meeting.
BRICS Member States will deepen engagement on key priorities including social security, enhanced participation of women in the workforce, skills mapping, and the use of digital solutions to shape inclusive labour markets.
