As I turned 30 sitting out of my rental apartment in Mumbai, I began to miss those long summer holidays straight out of boarding school spent under my grandma’s shadow. The rays of the sun used to hit me up in my eyes as the warmth of the Shimla sun spread through my face & body in Slo-mo giving me steroid like goosebumps. Time had paused as if until, the monkeys of Shimla got you running with their chase. There were several such moments in different places that gave me a certain feeling & arouse certain vibes within.

Being in a corporate job, I began to realize that those long holidays were far gone. At most, i did manage to get lucky with a 7 days stretched holiday with some sundry 3-day holidays’ twice a year. I wanted to visit places like Pondicherry, Auroville, Goa, Gokarna, Hampi, Gir Forest, Ladakh, Kasol, Dharamshala, Darjeeling and more while the sundry holidays went to the family trips during Diwali, Holi of course with the long weekends factored in. The leftovers went to the outskirts like Lonavala is to Mumbai, Kasauli is to Chandigarh, Dehradun is to Delhi & Pondicherry is to Chennai & so on. What about the other type of trips?...the niche ones? the offbeat ones?... the friends birthday trips? ...marriages? emergencies?.. I struggled to answer this question to myself!

I wanted more and i couldn’t have it. This realization began to pinch me, hurt me and grow on me. I did not want to feel stuck. I had to do something about it. I did not want to be dependent to afford what I want to do or let something/someone beyond my control influence my freedom to do this.

Inside Local began shaping up unknowingly. I began with using the Saturday’s & Sunday’s for experiences like visiting local places in Mumbai across Dhobhi Ghat - the largest open laundry washers colony, Dharavi - the largest slum in Asia, Sanjay Gandhi- National Park for cycling, Alibaug for the beaches and home stays and then began to club my 7 days holiday with a trip home to Chandigarh combined with my exile trip to Dharamshala, Khajjiar, Amritsar, Kasauli, Manali, Kasol, Pondicherry, Hampi and more.
