The active role played by nurses in upholding a functional healthcare system often gets sidelined. On the International Nurses Day, various FPA India branches and projects carried out activities to recognise the invaluable role of nurses in providing essential support across all our clinic and outreach- based service delivery points.
Through our Branches and Projects we regularly engage with nursing college students, create an enabling environment for our youth volunteers to interact with and learn from the nurses at our clinics and also conduct General Duty cm Bedside Assistance Training to open up employment avenues and strengthen our healthcare system.

Across South Asia and the globe, millions of women, girls and gender-diverse people are still denied the right to choice, preventing them from the fundamental right to make decisions about their own bodies and futures.

Sexual and reproductive health and rights remain underfunded and deprioritised. SRHR receives less than 1% of global development assistance. When development aid is cut and domestic prioritisation falls short, access to essential SRH services is pushed further out of reach for those who need it the most.

As per NHFS-5 Data, 22% of women in India do not use a hygienic method of menstrual protection; less than 2% of women in India have undergone screening for oral, cervical or breast cancer. Despite India having achieved replacement levels of fertility, one in three adult Indians continue to deal with unintended pregnancies, as per UNFPA data. Disparities in access to safe abortion, contraception and adolescent reproductive and sexual healthcare are compounded for those at the intersection of social exclusion, gender diversity, and poverty.

We must bridge this equity and access gap by delivering information, life skills, and health services to those hardest to reach. We must come together to fight for . This , we call upon governments, donors and stakeholders to come together to protect, prioritise, and .

On the International day of transgender visibility, we at FPA India reaffirm our commitment to protect and strengthen the rights of the transgender community in India. This includes

🔶 Addressing societal barriers, and creating opportunities to enable a dignified and aspirational life

🔶 Addressing legal and regulatory barriers impacting their sexual and reproductive health and rights & justice

🔶 Creating safe and inclusive spaces to nurture expression in all its diversities without fear or stigma.

Visibility isn’t just about optics. It is an integral part of empowerment. Yet, the lived reality for many transgender individuals is fraught with stigma, discrimination and increased vulnerability to violence.

Resist anti-transgender communication and comments.

Join us in supporting transpersons rights and building allyship with the community for an inclusive & fair world

As we run the final leg of our campaign, ‘Race to Erase Cervical Cancer’ this month, we are elated to see the much-awaited nationwide HPV vaccination campaign launched by our honourable Prime Minister for 14-year-old girls. Providing every eligible adolescent girl in our country with the required doses of HPV vaccine, will not only be a step forward in eliminating this preventable cancer, but also an opportunity to screen, counsel and support them for improving their nutritional status, menstrual hygiene, and overall health parameters!

In the context of the HPV vaccine being prohibitively expensive for many in India yet, the recently launched campaign will be a game changer in expanding equitable access, at scale, in safeguarding the health of India's young daughters.
