In the era of organised smuggling rackets of notorious dons, Bapu Laxman would carry out his surveillance incognito and the intelligence gathered would culminate in seizure of contraband goods. Bapu Laxman Lamkhande joined Customs Preventive Services of Mumbai Customs as a sepoy at the age of 20. He was a brave, honest, dedicated and devoted soldier of Bombay Customs who fought relentlessly against smuggling.
He was twice conferred with the President’s Award for his meritorious services. The customs not only gave him appreciation certificates but bestowed the ultimate honour on him by installing his bust size figure at the chowk adjacent to Custom House and naming the chowk after him. He died while in service.
Mumbai Customs pays homage to this iconic hero on his 42nd death anniversary.

Trade friendly initiatives taken by CBIC(Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs) to avoid any possible disruptions due to COVID-19.

In order to facilitate the trade further, a workshop on “Same Day Clearance” was conducted in New Custom House today, wherein the Time Release Study, 2019 was also released.

Mumbai Customs Zone 1 is celebrating the International Yoga Day 2019 by organising a week long Yoga camp. Officers led by Chief Commissioner Shri. B. Bhattacharya enthusiastically participated. Instructors of Iyengar Yoga led by Ms. Smita Somane, ADC, Shri Harshal Baxi and Ms Samita Mata actively trained the officers.

Mumbai Customs beat Air India in the Final today at the Elite League football match conducted by Mumbai District Football Association after 25 years with 3-1 win in penalty shoot-out. Congratulations to the team for winning the trophy.
