Sebi, which has been sitting on its hands for years, has booked Adani Group for non- compliance with norms related to related- party transactions and validity of listing and auditor certificates after being forced to act by the Supreme Court. Show cause notices have been issued to many companies. The companies being questioned are Adani Group's prized assets: Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, Adani Power, Adani Energy Solutions, Adani Wilmar and Adani Total Gas.

Remember these are the same companies whose auditors issued "Qualified Opinions" on several suspicious transactions. Adani Ports' auditor Deloitte Haskins & Sells had in May 2023 issued a "qualified opinion" on the company's financial position for 2022-23 in the case of multiple transactions specifically identified by Hindenburg Research. After that, in August 2023, the firm resigned from the post of auditor. SEBI had told the Supreme Court expert committee on August 25, 2023 that it was investigating 13 suspicious transactions. This investigation has come out in the form of a show cause notice which is the first step towards legal action.

SEBI's action once again shows the hollowness of the false claims of Adani Group, BJP and their supporters that the expert committee of the Supreme Court has given a "clean chit". Nothing can be further from the truth. We now know that close Adani associates Chang Chung- ling and Nasser Ali Shaaban Ahli used anonymous funds to acquire a large stake in the Adani Group. At the peak of their investments, they controlled 8 to 14 percent shares in Adani Power, Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports and Adani Transmission. This resulted in alleged round- tripping and over- invoicing of unaccounted money amounting to Rs 20,000 crore into Adani Group companies. These companies will now have to answer to SEBI in case of all these and other suspicious transactions.

There are many aspects of the Adani mega scam which need to be investigated. Be it the misuse of agencies like ED, CBI and Income Tax to force companies in critical infrastructure sectors to sell assets to the Prime Minister's close friends, or the use of our diplomatic resources to get Adani contracts in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and elsewhere. Be used. To fully expose Modani's corruption, there is a need for a JPC which will be constituted as soon as the government takes charge in June 2024.
