The Neglected Voices - Children in Divorced Families

Hello there,

We group of students ( Aiswarya, Fathima, Benito & Akash) , a small team of student social workers from Tata Institute of Social Science, Mumbai are conducting a social media campaign on *The Neglected Voices- Children in divorced Families * . Our aim is to create awareness on the effects of divorce on children, factors that affect the post divorce adjustment , look into a few suggestions and existing support structures that could helpful children in divorced families.

The below is series of 5 posters wherein how spousal violence /fighting which is one of the major cause leading to violence and plays a major role in the post divorce adjustment of the child. The series describes how this affects children's mental health is discussed. The first poster is the cover page wherein a picture depicting two children holding broken heart are standing side by side and trying to keep it together showing the effect that spousal violence leaves on the child. Posters 2 to 6 are descriptive posters, wherein how the spousal fighting creates a stressful environment and how that stress can take a toll on the physical and psychological well being is discussed, the 3rd poster discusses about the emotional insecurity that is created among the children as a byproduct of the spousal violence wherein children starts worrying about the divorce of the parents and when the silent treatment is going to end. This would lead to decreased cognitive performance wherein it was found that their ability to rapidly solve problem kindoff gets reduced when this happens which is mentioned in poster 4, whereas poster 5 talks about the fact that parental conflict increases aggression, delinquency and other adjustmental issues among children. The 6 th poster takes about the increased relationship problem that could get raised because of the parental violence and this affects their ability to create meaningful relationships in the future also.

The background portrays a picture wherein, two parents are walking away from each other whereas the children are between them and confused, thinking *"if our parents stopped loving each other one day, will they stop loving us also?"*
This shows one of the major confusions faced by children in divorced families , wherein the children gets confused about their parents love towards them or gets scared to create meaningful and trusting relationship. This poster depicts one of the major psychological question that divorce creates among the children.
