Reading is everywhereโ€”not just in not just in fairy tales.

Today, as we all get back to our routines (and shake off the holiday mood!), let's look at fresh ways to keep the reading habit alive. At ๐—ฌ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜†๐—ฑ too, we don't just want children to read; we want them to feel ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐˜„๐—ถ๐˜๐—ต ๐—˜๐—ป๐—ด๐—น๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ต in the ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—น๐—ฑ. That is why we look beyond the storybook.

Here is why we love these alternatives:

1๏ธโƒฃ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—ฎ๐˜‡๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€ & ๐—ก๐—ฒ๐˜„๐˜€๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€: There is something so "grown-up" about opening a fresh paper, isn't there? ๐Ÿฆ Plus, since many are subscription-based, children love the thrill of seeing their own name on the mail. It makes reading feel like a special delivery, not a chore. ๐Ÿ“ฌ
2๏ธโƒฃ๐——๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜€: Think of them as a "confidence tool." ๐Ÿ“– When a child learns to find a meaning on their own, they stop relying on others. It turns them into independent learners.
3๏ธโƒฃ ๐—ง๐—ฒ๐˜…๐˜๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ธ๐˜€: Yes, really! ๐ŸŽ’ When we read a chapter before it's taught in school, we remove the fear of "studying." It turns a difficult lesson into a familiar story.
4๏ธโƒฃ ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—˜๐—ป๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜: Billboards, menus, wrappers... reading these proves to the child that English isn't just a subjectโ€”it's a life skill. ๐ŸŒ

Happy New Year! ๐ŸŽŠ

As we step into 2026, I want to share what matters most:
Not grand resolutions that fade by February.
But small, daily habits that build over time.

So here's my wish for you: Instead of resolving to read 365 books (too much pressure!),
commit to just 10 minutes every single day.

10 minutes is:
โœ… Doable even on your busiest day
โœ… Builds HABIT, not a checklist
โœ… 60+ hours of stories over a year
โœ… Consistent presence in your child's learning

Your child doesn't need 365 books. They need your voice, daily, for 10 minutes.

And for Yestoryd?
2026 is going to be special. After teaching 75+ kids to read, I've learned what truly worksโ€”and what doesn't. This year, we're working on something to help YOUR child become a confident, independent reader. I can't wait to share it with you when it's ready. ๐Ÿš€

Your turn: What's ONE reading habit you're committing to in 2026?
Comment below!

We'd love to hear from you. ๐Ÿ‘‡

With warmth,
Rucha Rai

My childhood best friends? They are right here. ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

People often ask me why I started a library. The answer is sitting right at the top of this stack: Bimbo and Topsy.
That silly dog and cat were my first taste of independent reading. It was a gift from my parents, and I still remember laughing at their adventures.

Looking at this stack today, I can see my whole childhood journey through

Brer Rabbit and Mr. Twiddle taught me wit and humor.
I graduated to The Famous Fiveโ€”not just for the mysteries, but for the bonds of friendship and those delectable picnics!
Then came Kiki the Parrot in the Adventure Series (The Castle of Adventure was a favourite!).
I devoured Malory Towers and desperately wanted to be part of that boarding school world.

I know Enid Blyton is debated today, but for me, these weren't just stories. They were my imaginary friends. They made me a reader. And honestly? They still regale me today.

What was the first book you remember loving as a child? Was it Enid Blyton too?

It usually starts with bargaining. ("Just one page?") Then comes the fidgeting. Finally, the words every parent dreads: "๐ˆ ๐ก๐š๐ญ๐ž ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐๐ข๐ง๐ !" ๐Ÿ˜ฃ

Itโ€™s heartbreaking to hear, but here is the good news: "๐‡๐š๐ญ๐ž" ๐ข๐ฌ ๐š๐ฅ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ง๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ฅ ๐ž๐ฆ๐จ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง. It is usually a mask for something else.

If you notice your child: ๐Ÿšฉ Guessing wildy at words instead of reading them... ๐Ÿšฉ Only wanting to read books that seem "too young" for them... ๐Ÿšฉ Loving stories when you read, but refusing to read themselves...

..then they aren't "non-readers." They are just stuck in one of

Weโ€™ve broken down exactly what these 3 gaps areโ€”and how to bridge themโ€”in the slides above.

Happy Children's Day! ๐ŸŽˆ

This is me, Rucha, about a year old... apparently so eager to read, I didn't even care which way the book was facing!

This photo is the sparkโ€”a lifelong love for books and stories.

But the fire? That came years later, when I held a book just like this for my own daughter. That's when the drive began: to show her a world of magic where anything could be, an adventure more powerful and imagination-rich than any screen.

I got to relive it all: I watched our journey go from 'reading to her,' to 'reading with her,' and finally, to the magical moment of her reading all on her own.

That full-circle journeyโ€”from my own upside-down book to her independent readingโ€”is the entire mission behind Yestoryd.

My wish for every child today is that same, can't-wait-to-read-it joy. And my wish for every parent is to get to feel that powerful connection.

Here's to a generation of curious minds and lifelong readers. โ€“ Rucha, Founder

What an inspiring day! A huge thank you to for organizing such an incredible phonics event.

As a phonics educator, it was an absolute privilege to attend a session with the legendary Christopher Jolly, the driving force behind the Jolly Phonics Program.

Listening to him speak about the challenges of teaching English was so insightful. What resonated most with me, and affirmed the Yestoryd mission, was the reminder to focus on a child's skill of blending and segmenting, rather than getting stuck on a 'perfect' letter sound. Practice will refine the sound over time.

This is exactly what we believe inโ€”building strong, confident skills through joyful, consistent practice. We are so passionate about bringing the best and most effective literacy strategies to our families. Feeling energized to bring these new insights back to our Yestoryd phonics programs!

Swipe through to read the story of how a simple bedtime book grew into a passion to help every child find magic in reading.

We're so proud of the community Rucha has built here in Navi Mumbai, and we're so excited for the next chapter.

About Yestoryd

At Yestoryd, our mission is to inspire and nurture a love of reading books in children. We strongly believe that each child deserves a creative, imagination-stimulating, learning rich environment.

However, we do understand that despite the best intentions, it is sometimes difficult for the parents and caregivers to find time to sit down and read with kids. At Yestoryd, our aim is to work towards bridging this gap.

Currently, we are starting storytelling sessions for kids. Soon, we will include various other activities and initiatives to make reading fun for both kids and their parents!
