Under Officer Kumari Puja of 2(T) Bn NCC of Bhavans Vivekananda college Sainikpuri, Secunderabad has shared few of the teachings learnt from her 3 years of NCC which she would like to share.

1. After coming back from all India thal sainik camp 2014, I had read a line somewhere " kamyabi ko dimag me aur nakamyabi dil me kabhi jagah mat do. Kamyabi dimag me Jaye to ahnkaar paida karti h aur nakamyabi dil me Jaye to aage badhne ni deti". N I always tried to implement it in my life.

2. At starting I used to get fear of few obstacles in OT Event. Then a sir told me ' target ko chhota aur dil ko bada banao'. N yes it worked. From then I felt like those obstacles are saying to me "come n cross us. We are there for you to overcome us n not to led you down". The OT course applies to all the obstacles that comes in different form in life. Just to lift us up n make better than before. # Jagsir Singh

3. A correct training n knowledge fetched in the beginning builds the base. N wherever you get chance of gaining knowledge, go ahead without any shame or fear. # sarojbala ma'am (before IUC) and Lokesh Saxena sir( when you were guiding 2 cadets for ssb interview).

4. You should not beg for or expect respect coz you are at some post or status. Respect is something which comes from within. You have to earn it by possessing few of traits. N when it comes from within you can feel the affection.

5. Learnt this from others life. Don't get involved in training someone or any team by yourself until you haven't been called. Used to listen a story in childhood about Lord shiva refusing to go n asking his wife Parvati not to go at the grand worship kept by her father daksha without invitation. N saw it in realty. You ll lost your self respect.

6. You never gain knowledge if you don't pass it to others. Your achievements turns to real when you make few more like you n keep the cycle of knowledge flowing. N when your students do well, the joy felt is more than what you had felt during your achievement.

7. Ego n desire to get importance actually deteriorate you. I saw one person whom I used to admire had fell from one's own level. Could have gain prestige and yes gained also but fake. What's the meaning of that fake respect that people show you from front.

8. Be a good trainer, but don't take the credit. Credit will come to you. You can share the credit but cannot own it. When you take the credit, the feeling of arrogance can be seen which actually dominate your hard work put in to train them.

9. Opportunities come in bulk. Wait for the right one n grab it. N make full use of it.

10. Just give back to the people or team from where you had gained something. This is the way to can do your part towards building your nation. Also good things come back to you. " neki kar dariya me dalna Sikho, ki tufaan me wahi nekiya kashti ban Paar utarengi".

Living his dream: 19-year-old with Down's Syndrome made policeman for a day

Clad in a police uniform, specially stitched by the police for the occasion, Stevin Mathew, who has Down’s Syndrome, beamed when police constables saluted him inside the station

Stevin Mathew is a happy 19-year-old. His long time desire to be a policeman was fulfilled for a day, thanks to the Chennai police.

Clad in a police uniform, specially stitched by the police for the occasion, Stevin Mathew, who has Down’s Syndrome, beamed when police constables saluted him inside the station on Friday.

He is the son of Rajeev and Ciby Mathew, from Doha in Quatar, and is currently studying in a special school called HOPE Qatar run by his parents. On Friday, he went on rounds in the police patrol vehicle around Ashok Nagar, accompanied by police constables and his parents.

It all started with an email that Mr. Mathew wrote to the Chennai police commissioner A.K. Vishwanathan, 10 days ago.

“He was fascinated by the police after watching his favourite stars Suresh Gopi, Vijay and others. He always wanted to become a police officer. So I decided to write a mail to the Commissioner when we came to Chennai for a vacation,” Mr. Mathew told

Last week, officers from the Ashok Nagar police station called Mr. Mathew back, and two days ago they came to meet Stevin. “They took his measurements and even got a police uniform with two stars stitched for him,” the happy father said.

Stevin was ecstatic when he entered the Ashok Nagar police station around 5 p.m. on Friday. “He took a few phone calls and used the walkie-talkie and other communication equipment,” said a police officer attached to the Ashok Nagar police station.

Though Stevin holds a Diploma in Computer Applications, his father feels that children like him can shine well if given the right opportunities. “He has met Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he came to Qatar,” said Mr. Mathew.

Commissioner A.K. Vishwanathan, who initiated the programme, said that they planned the day only to be as a source of encouragement to Stevin.
