Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat, Haryana organized a Faculty development programme in Virtual Mode on “Labour Rights and Human Rights: Emerging Issues and Challenges” during 08-15 November, 2025. The programme was organized by the Centre for Labour Studies, DBRANLU in association with V.V. Giri National Labour Institute (VVGNLI), Noida.
The programme aimed to empower faculty members, research scholars, and professionals through interdisciplinary approaches, to enhance their teaching and research capabilities, and promote active academic engagement in the evolving domains of human rights law & labour law.
The main objectives of the programme were to enhance participants’ understanding of the conceptual, constitutional, and international dimensions of labour and human rights, to promote interdisciplinary engagement by integrating perspectives from law, economics, sociology, and public policy, to strengthen research and analytical competencies in addressing contemporary labour and human rights challenges, to provide pedagogical tools for effectively teaching and researching labour and human rights in higher education and to foster critical discussion on emerging issues such as gig work, workplace discrimination, occupational safety, and human dignity.
The programme started with an inaugural ceremony. Dr. Balwinder Kaur, Associate Professor & Director, Centre for Labour Studies delivered the welcome address. Prof. (Dr.) Devinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, DBRANLU Sonepat; Prof.(Dr.) S. Surya Prakash, Vice-Chancellor, NLIU Bhopal and Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chancellor, DNLU Jabalpur delivered the keynote address. Dr. Arvind, Director General, VVGNLI delivered the special address.
The programme included sessions on key topics such as the foundations of human rights, constitutional framework and the role of judiciary in protecting the rights of vulnerable groups, including women, refugees, persons with disabilities, and children. It also addressed current issues related to technology, AI, data privacy, compliance, and ethical concerns in enforcement. The curriculum also delved into contemporary issues such as the impact of technology, artificial intelligence, data privacy, compliance, and ethical challenges in the enforcement of human rights. The programme concluded with written and practical assessments, followed by a valedictory ceremony and certification, ensuring a holistic and practice oriented learning experience. Prof.(Dr.) Ashutosh Mishra, Registrar & Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat delivered the vote of thanks.
The programme was attended by forty one participants representing faculty members, research scholars, legal professionals, and practitioners, both from India and abroad. The programme was coordianted by Dr. Balwinder Kaur, Associate Professor & Director, Centre for Labour Studies; Dr. Ellina Samantroy Jena, Fellow, V.V. Giri National Labour Institute, Noida and Mr. A***n Khare, Assistant Professor, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat.
