Project is located at Punalur, this project began with a simple yet meaningful vision: to transform an existing house into a home that feels deeply connected to its natural surroundings while developing a distinctive architectural identity of its own.

The client approached us with a clear requirement. They wanted a home that was not merely renovated, but reimagined, a space that could embrace nature, create pleasing views, and offer a unique experience for everyday living.

Instead of immediately focusing on the house itself, we took a step back and studied the site as a whole. The existing landscape, orientation, surroundings, natural elements, movement through the property, and potential views became the starting points of our design process.

We explored multiple design options, constantly questioning how the house could respond to its surroundings and how each space could create a more meaningful visual connection with nature. Rather than treating the landscape as something around the building, we began to consider the site itself as an integral part of the architecture.

From this approach, the design gradually evolved.

Instead of simply designing a house and placing it on the site, we designed the site first and allowed the architecture to emerge from it. The circulation, views, open spaces, landscape elements, and built forms were carefully composed to work together as one experience.

Through this process, we formulated a design that responds to its context while intentionally standing out, a home that belongs to its surroundings without disappearing into them.

The result is an architectural intervention shaped by nature, views, movement, and the character of the site, where the house becomes more than a structure, and the site becomes an integral part of the home.

EEVA by VARATECT

This project came to us in April 2025, for Mr. Akhil Vadakkan Pallikkal , located at Malayalapuzha, Pathanamthitta. It is a renovation project of a typical Kerala home with a simple rectangular structure.

At the initial stage, we documented the existing building and presented design concepts. The client gave us the freedom to redesign within his requirements, which allowed us to explore the space more openly.

The existing house felt quite congested, so our approach focused on creating a more spacious and functional home. By introducing extensions and removing selected walls, we redefined the internal layout—transforming it into a well-planned 3BHK with proper living, dining, and two additional bedrooms with attached toilets.

Since the site is located in a calm and serene environment, our intention was to create a home that feels warm, simple, and connected to its surroundings. A “cute” and grounded residence that blends with the peaceful context.

The key feature of Eeva is its sloped roof, inspired by traditional Kerala architecture, giving the house a humble, down-to-earth character while responding effectively to the local climate.

We named this project Eeva, meaning “life,” “living one,” and “source of life”—reflecting the essence of a home designed for everyday living. The typography of the name is also inspired by the elevation design, creating a subtle connection between identity and form.

Every project begins with a strong concept, and for Project Thuthiyil, our design language was built around one core idea — connection.

The compound wall was the very first design element we developed for this project. Instead of treating it as just a boundary, we wanted it to become a part of the overall architectural experience.

Our concept was translated through a series of connecting lines and carefully positioned pillar elements that flow throughout the landscape and terrain, creating visual continuity across the site. The design blends with the earth rather than sitting separately from it, giving the entire exterior a unified character.

The padippura was also designed with the same philosophy — refined proportions, clean detailing, and vertical line elements that enhance the overall rhythm of the structure while maintaining a timeless Kerala essence with a contemporary touch.

At VARATECT, we believe every detail matters — even the first wall you see.

More from the journey coming soon. ✨
