Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul
Gandhi praised the nationwide NEET-UG
2026protests in the Lok Sabha, saying "every Indian should be proud" of the students for peacefully raising their voice against the paper leak and alleged irregularities in the education system. He criticised the education system as expensive and commercialised, alleged that the RSS
exerts control over the Education Ministry, and claimed former minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation was only symbolic. Rahul also
accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of
ordering police action against student
protesters, triggering massive protests from BJP MPs.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Riju said Rahul
Gandhi was politicising an important Bill instead of
debating its provisions and objected to the use of
an “unparliamentary" word, urging Speaker Om Birla to expunge it from the House records.
Defence Minister Rainath Singh also supported the demand to remove the remark. The Speaker later ordered the word to be
expunged, while BJP MPs demanded an
apology and proof for Rahul Gandhi's allegations against Amit Shah. Meanwhile, the government defended the proposed anti-paper leak
amendment Bill, which seeks stricter penalties of up to 10 years'imprisonment and a 50 lakh fine for those involved in examination paper leaks.
