Shadnagar was founded between 1869 and 1911 under the sixth Nizam Mahboo Ali Khan. His pen name was Shad, and the town was named Shad Nagar in his honor.
Maharaja Kishan Pershad, prime minister of Hydeabad state at that time, was also an Urdu poet. Neighboring to this place was known as Janampet which is now known as Farruq nagar.
