PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY & SCHOOL-TO-SCHOOL TUNING PROGRAMME AMONG FOUR SCHOOL (Bermiok Athing RBTDDM GSSS, Upper Chhalamthang JHS, Thangsing JHS & Passi PS)
“Learning Together, Growing Together, Inspiring Each Other”
A unique Professional Learning Community (PLC) and School-to-School Tuning Programme was organised by our institution with the objective of creating a vibrant platform for peer learning, collaborative learning, experiential exposure and sharing of best educational practices among students and teachers of neighbouring schools.
As part of this innovative initiative, students of Classes III to V from Upper Chhamlamthang JHS, Thangsing JHS and Passi PS, accompanied by their guide teachers, spent an entire school day at our institution Bermiok Athing RBTDDM GSSS. The programme provided the visiting students with an opportunity to experience the complete rhythm of a regular school day and understand how different components of the teaching-learning process are integrated into school life.
A Day of Learning Beyond the Classroom:
The visiting students participated in and observed the various activities of the host school right from the morning assembly to the final bell. Rather than being mere spectators, they became an integral part of the school environment.
They participated in the morning assembly along with the students of the host school. Joined their counterparts in regular classrooms and experienced collaborative classroom learning.
Observed different teaching-learning methodologies used by teachers.
Interacted freely with students and teachers of the host institution. Experienced the school's academic, co-curricular and technological learning environment.
Shared their own experiences and perspectives with their counterparts.
This interaction created a wonderful atmosphere of peer learning, confidence building, friendship and exchange of ideas.
Exposure to Science and Emerging Technology:
One of the major highlights of the programme was the visit to the school's Science Laboratory and Atal Tinkering Laboratory (ATL).
The students were introduced to various scientific instruments, innovative technologies and hands-on learning resources. They had the opportunity to explore:
🤖 Robots and robotic systems
🔬 Binocular microscopes
🤖 Sensors and electronic components
🖨️ 3D printers
🖥️ Smart Board technology
⚙️ Various ATL tools and equipment
The students were not limited to observing the equipment. They were given opportunities for hands-on exploration and practical interaction, making the experience engaging and meaningful.
The ATL visit particularly helped the students understand how Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) can be connected with creativity, innovation and real-life problem solving.
Library & Mid-Day Meal Experience:
The visiting students also explored the school's Library, where they were introduced to the importance of reading, reference resources and developing a culture of independent learning.
They also visited the Mid-Day Meal facility, gaining an understanding of how schools ensure nutrition, hygiene and the well-being of students as an integral part of the educational process.
Inaugural Session
The programme commenced with an inaugural session attended by the Panchayat President, Gram Panchayat Member, Principal, teaching and non-teaching staff, participating teachers and the entire student community of the host institution.
The presence of the local community representatives added special significance to the programme and reflected the importance of community participation in strengthening school education.
Address by the Panchayat President:
In her address, the Panchayat President appreciated the initiative and shared valuable insights into how such programmes can benefit not only the visiting students but also the students of the host institution.
She highlighted the importance of providing children with opportunities to interact beyond the boundaries of their own schools. She appreciated the Principal's innovative vision and expressed her full support for organising similar collaborative and educational programmes in the future.
Her words reinforced the belief that meaningful educational transformation is possible when schools, teachers, students and the community come together with a shared purpose.
The programme was designed around a simple but powerful philosophy:
“A school is not an isolated institution; it is a living learning community where everyone can learn from everyone.”
The participating students brought their own experiences, curiosity and ideas, while the host school provided an opportunity to experience a wider range of teaching-learning practices, infrastructure and emerging technologies.
The programme therefore became a two-way learning experience, rather than a one-sided exposure visit.
Key Outcomes:
The programme successfully promoted:
1. Peer Learning
Students interacted with their counterparts and learned through observation, discussion and collaboration.
2. Experiential Learning
Hands-on activities in the laboratories and ATL made learning more practical and meaningful.
3. Technology Exposure
Students received first-hand exposure to robotics, sensors, 3D printing, microscopy and smart classroom technology.
4. Teacher Collaboration
Guide teachers and host-school teachers had opportunities to observe, discuss and share educational practices.
5. Confidence & Communication
Students interacted with new peers, teachers and technologies, helping develop communication and social skills.
6. School-to-School Collaboration
The programme established a platform for continued academic and educational cooperation among neighbouring schools.
7. Community Participation
The involvement of the Panchayat leadership strengthened the connection between the school and the local community.
Conclusion:
The Professional Learning Community and School-to-School Tuning Programme was much more than a school visit. It was an initiative to create a shared ecosystem of learning, where students, teachers and the community could observe, participate, exchange ideas and grow together.
From the morning assembly to the final bell, from the classroom to the laboratory, and from traditional learning to emerging technologies, the entire day provided the participating children with a holistic picture of school education.
The programme demonstrated that when schools open their doors to one another, learning becomes larger than the classroom, collaboration becomes a habit, and every child gets an opportunity to discover something new.
“Different Schools. One Learning Community. A Shared Vision for Better Education.”
