ECI Must Remain Independent and Free from Political Influence: Hakeem Yaseen

Urges PM Modi to Act to Restore Public Confidence in Electoral Institutions

Says ECI Chief Should Consider Resigning Over Recent Controversies

Srinagar, October 4: Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) President and former Cabinet Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Sunday said that India is one of the largest democracies in the world and has a long-standing democratic tradition based on constitutional institutions and democratic values.

Expressing concern over recent developments concerning the Election Commission of India (ECI), Yaseen said that questions being raised by political parties and various sections of society regarding the functioning of the poll body cannot be ignored.

Yaseen said the Election Commission has traditionally been viewed as an independent constitutional institution entrusted with conducting free and fair elections. He said that any controversy surrounding its decisions or functioning has the potential to affect public confidence in the electoral process.

“Recent developments and controversial decisions have raised questions about the functioning of the Election Commission. These concerns need to be addressed in the larger interest of democracy and the confidence of the people,” Yaseen said.

He maintained that the credibility of democratic institutions depends upon their independence, transparency and impartial functioning.

Yaseen said that in view of the controversies surrounding the functioning of the ECI, the Chairman/Chief Election Commissioner should consider resigning from the responsibility, saying that such a step would help restore public confidence in the institution.

He said the Election Commission should not be perceived as working in favour of, or under the influence of, any particular political party.

“The Election Commission must operate independently. No individual, political party or government should have undue influence over its functioning. Its decisions must inspire confidence among all sections of society,” he said.

Yaseen also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps to strengthen the credibility and independence of democratic institutions.

He said the Prime Minister, as the head of the Union Government, has an important role in ensuring that democratic institutions retain the confidence of the people.

“India’s democratic strength lies in the independence of its institutions and respect for the aspirations of its people. Strengthening the credibility of the electoral system will further enhance the image of the world’s largest democracy,” Yaseen said.

He emphasised that electoral institutions must remain above political considerations and work strictly in accordance with constitutional principles, ensuring that the people’s mandate is protected and their democratic aspirations respected.

Srinagar, Oct 1: •Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) President and former Cabinet Minister, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, has urged the administration to ensure comprehensive and foolproof arrangements for the annual Urs of Hazrat Sheikh-ul-Aalam Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (RA) at Charar-i-Sharief, commencing on October 7.

In a statement, Yaseen said thousands of devotees from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir are expected to visit the revered shrine during the Urs and called for adequate arrangements for their convenience, safety and smooth movement.

He stressed the need for effective coordination among all concerned departments, including Traffic Police, Roads and Buildings (R&B), Jal Shakti, Power Development Department (PDD), Health Department and local municipal bodies.
Yaseen called for a comprehensive traffic management plan to regulate the movement of vehicles around Charar-i-Sharief and urged the authorities to deploy additional passenger buses on major routes, particularly Srinagar–Charar-i-Sharief, Budgam–Charar-i-Sharief & Pulwama–Charar-i-Sharief.

He also called for special sanitation and cleanliness drives in and around the shrine premises, including prayer halls, ablution areas, roads and adjoining localities. Dedicated teams should be deployed for regular cleaning during the Urs days, he said.

The PDF president stressed the need for uninterrupted drinking water and electricity supply besides adequate healthcare facilities. He suggested setting up first-aid and medical assistance camps at strategic locations along the routes leading to Charar-i-Sharief to deal with emergencies.

Yaseen also urged the administration to ensure proper road connectivity and remove any obstructions that could hamper the movement of devotees.

He said the annual Urs of Hazrat Sheikh-ul-Aalam (RA), revered as Alamdar-e-Kashmir, holds immense spiritual and cultural significance for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Yaseen appealed to local residents, shopkeepers and community members to cooperate with the administration in maintaining cleanliness, discipline and the sanctity of the shrine.

He prayed for peace, prosperity and well-being of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen visits residence of Ab. Rashid Shah at Khansahib

Srinagar, September 30:* People's Democratic Front (PDF) President and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen today visited the residence of Ab. Rashid Shah Sahib at Khansahib, Budgam.

The visit was marked by warm interaction and cordiality. During the visit, Hakeem Sahib held detailed discussions on various socio-political issues concerning the area.

Local residents and prominent citizens were also present on the occasion and apprised Hakeem Sahib about various developmental issues and public grievances of Khansahib.

Hakeem Sahib assured that he will continue to raise the genuine issues of the people of Khansahib at appropriate forums and will work for overall development and welfare of the area.

He said that PDF is committed to serve the people at grassroots level and such interactions strengthen the bond with the masses.

Srinagar, September 29: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) President and former minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has welcomed the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly resolution seeking the immediate restoration of full Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, saying it represents the aspirations of nearly 1.40 crore people of the region.

Hakeem said passing a resolution was only the beginning and that its implementation was the bigger responsibility. He urged the Government of India to take concrete and time-bound steps towards restoring full Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

“Passing a resolution is not a big thing, but implementing it is the bigger responsibility. The people of Jammu and Kashmir want full Statehood with dignity, and their aspirations must be respected,” he said.

He also criticised the BJP for opposing the resolution and referring to the 2000 resolution. Hakeem said the demand for Statehood should not be viewed through political considerations and maintained that the people were seeking restoration of full Statehood with dignity, referring to the State as it existed during the Dogra rule under Maharaja Hari Singh.

Hakeem said people had high expectations from the Assembly session, but several important public issues, according to him, were not adequately addressed.

He pointed to unemployment, the ongoing protests by daily wagers, concerns of employees and the distress being faced by the business fraternity. He said people had given their elected representatives a mandate with the expectation that these issues would be taken up seriously and concrete measures would follow.

“People expected their genuine issues to be discussed and addressed in the Assembly. Unemployment, daily wagers, employees, traders and the business community are facing serious difficulties, but many of these concerns did not receive the attention they deserved,” he said.

Hakeem said the Assembly should remain focused on issues directly affecting the people rather than political confrontations.

He alleged that important public matters were not sufficiently focused upon and said both the ruling and opposition parties had a responsibility to ensure that the core issues facing Jammu and Kashmir were discussed.

“Both sides have a responsibility. The main issues concerning the people should not be diverted. The Assembly must remain focused on unemployment, employees, daily wagers, the business community and other issues for which people have given their mandate,” Hakeem said.

Budgam, September 27:•President, Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Front (JKPDF) & former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen today visited Khansahib area of district Budgam where two to three residential houses were completely gutted in a devastating fire incident a couple of days ago.

Hakeem Yaseen met the affected families and expressed his deep solidarity and heartfelt sympathy with them in this hour of grief and distress. He said it was extremely painful to see families rendered homeless and losing all their belongings, household goods and property in the tragic blaze.

He assured the victims of all possible support and help from his party.

On the occasion, Hakeem Yaseen strongly urged the district administration Budgam to provide immediate relief and adequate compensation to the fire victims on a war-footing basis.

He demanded that a revenue team be deputed to the spot for immediate assessment of losses and that adequate financial assistance under SDRF and instant relief from the Red Cross, including tents, blankets, ration and kitchen kits, be released without any delay.

He said the affected families are presently shelterless and living under the open sky and need immediate rehabilitation on priority.

He also appealed to the general public, social workers and voluntary organizations to come forward and help the affected families generously in this hour of need.

Hakeem Yaseen Expresses Deep Grief Urges Admin for War-Footing Relief Under SDRF and Red Cross

Budgam September 25: President Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Front JKPDF and former Cabinet Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has expressed deep grief and heartfelt sympathy over the massive fire incident at Khansahib Budgam today which left several families homeless.

Hakeem Yaseen said he was deeply pained to learn that residential houses were gutted in the devastating blaze causing huge loss of property and household goods.

Expressing solidarity with the victims Yaseen said I extend my heartfelt sympathy to all the fire affected families in this hour of distress and tragedy. My full support is with them.

He urged the district administration to immediately rush a revenue team to the spot for on the spot assessment of losses and to provide instant relief from Red Cross besides adequate financial compensation under SDRF.

He said the victims must be rehabilitated on priority as they have been left without shelter.

Yaseen also appealed to the public to help the fire victims generously.
