AAY and BPL Ration Cards Must Be Re-Verified Transparently and Impartially to Protect the Rights of Poor Families

Srinagar, August 29, 2026:

I am deeply pained that, allegedly, some influential and well-connected individuals have misused their influence to deprive poor and deserving families of their rightful benefits.

AAY and BPL ration cards are meant exclusively for the poorest, most vulnerable and genuinely eligible families. However, concerns have been raised that these benefits have reportedly been extended to some individuals who own substantial land or property, are well-off and financially sound, or belong to families with government employees, while genuinely deserving poor families continue to remain deprived.

Residents from Tangpora, Bakshipora, Reshi Mohalla, Kreshibal, Gori Pora, Palpora, Shanglipora, RDS Zone, and Lawaypora have raised concerns that many eligible families in these areas have not received the benefits they rightfully deserve. These concerns deserve a fair, transparent and impartial examination.

I respectfully but firmly appeal to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha Ji; Hon’ble Chief Secretary; Hon’ble Commissioner/Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department; Hon’ble Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir; Hon’ble Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar; and Hon’ble Director, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department to ensure a comprehensive and impartial re-verification of all AAY and BPL ration cards in the concerned areas.

If any beneficiary is found to be ineligible after due verification, or if any official is found responsible for incorrect verification, negligence, favouritism or submission of an incorrect report, a fair inquiry should be conducted and appropriate departmental and legal action taken as per law.

The rights of poor families must never be compromised. Welfare schemes must reach only those who are genuinely eligible and in need.

This is not about targeting any individual or family. It is a demand for fairness, transparency, accountability and social justice, so that the genuine poor and deserving families receive the benefits meant for them.

6.83% Power Tariff Hike Exposes Government’s Failure to Deliver Relief: JD(U)

Srinagar, August 22, 2026:
Mudasir Rehman , State Youth President, Janata Dal (United), Jammu & Kashmir, today strongly criticized the reported 6.83% increase in power tariffs from September, terming it another setback for the common people of J&K.

He said the government came to power making major promises, including 200 units of free electricity, but the people are now being confronted with higher power bills.

“From promises of 200 units of free electricity to a 6.83% tariff hike, the people of J&K are being made to pay the price. The government’s report card is becoming clearer—less relief and more burden on ordinary households,” Rehman said.

He questioned the government’s priorities and said that after nearly two years in office, the administration should be focused on providing relief to citizens rather than increasing their financial burden.

The JD(U) youth leader demanded that the government reconsider the tariff hike, fulfil its electricity-related commitments and provide genuine relief to consumers, particularly economically weaker families.

“People do not need slogans or promises; they need delivery, accountability and affordable electricity. The government must listen to the concerns of ordinary consumers and act immediately,” Rehman added.
