NIRDPR is an autonomous think-tank under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India

National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj(NIRD & PR), an organisation of the Ministry of Rural Development, GoI, is a premier training and research institute in the field of rural development in india. Its training , research and action research have symbiotic relationships through which NIRD plays a key role in identifying the factors contributing to the effectiveness of development programs and also helps
build the capacities of a large number of development functionaries. NIRD trains around 25,000 senior and middle level officers , planners and rural development functionaries every year. Since its inception,the Institute organised nearly 1300 research studies on various issues related to Rural Development and has brought out over 400 publications. The workshops and seminars of NIRD provide opportunity of various stakeholders to share their viewpoints and experiences vis-a-vis the development issues.The recommendations provide useful feedback to the policy makers and programme executives in designing policies and programmes in more innovative and participative ways. As an apex training institution, NIRD plays an important role in structuring and strengthening RD institutional networks in the area of capacity building of rural development functionaries. NIRD organizes several international training programmes for the benefit of development functionaries of the Asian and African countries. As a member of the Center on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and Pacific(CIRDAP) and Afro-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO), it has been offering its services in the areas of training and research and in strengthening of training institutions of the member countries. NIRD has established its sevices to various national and international organisations. providing solutions to the problems in programme execution in partnership with the development agency personnel and community is the main thrust of Action Research Activity of NIRD. The action research projects constitute the social laboratories in which NIRD and the collaborating organisations experiment with new ideas as well.

🌱 Training-cum-Writeshop on Planning and Designing of Training Modules and Research Proposals

NIRDPR, Hyderabad, is hosting a five-day Training-cum-Writeshop from 21–25 September 2026 for Master Trainers and officials of SIRD&PR, Sikkim, focusing on strengthening their skills in training design, research, and emerging AI-enabled tools.

The programme brings together conceptual learning, practical exercises, hands-on writing, and expert and peer review, with a focus on developing outputs that can be directly used in the training and research ecosystem of Sikkim.

The programme aims to equip Master Trainers and officials with practical, evidence-based and AI-enabled approaches that can strengthen training, research and capacity-building initiatives in Sikkim.

🌿 Strengthening Biodiversity Governance at the Grassroots

The NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, with the support of the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA), Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (MGSIRD&PR) and the Madhya Pradesh State Biodiversity Board, organised a Capacity Building Programme for Members of Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) on 7 September 2026 at MGSIRD&PR, Jabalpur. The programme brought together 52 Panchayat Secretaries and BMC members.

The programme covered the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 and 2023 Amendments, biodiversity governance, People’s Biodiversity Register (PBR), Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS), conservation planning and sustainable use.

Shri Arvind Yadav, Director, MGSIRD&PR, highlighted the importance of strengthening BMCs for effective biodiversity governance. Resource persons including Mr Abhishek Nagavanshi, Ms Shivani Sharma, Mr Shubham Singh Pankaj, Mr Vivek Kumar Pandey, Shri Manoj Solanki and Dr Surjit Vikraman contributed to the sessions. Shri Govind Singh Patel, State Award recipient for Biodiversity Conservation, also shared his experiences with participants.

The programme concluded with a valedictory session chaired by Shri Aakash Sahu, IFS, SDO, Jabalpur, who appreciated the grassroots capacity-building efforts. Participants received certificates and shared their learning and suggestions for taking the initiative forward across the State.

Empowering Rural Enterprises through Marketing Skills

The NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Delhi Branch, conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme on Marketing Skills (Non-Farm) for Community Resource Persons–Enterprise Promotion (CRP-EPs) of Telangana SRLM (SERP) from 1–3 September 2026 at the NIRDPR Campus, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad.

Organised by the Centre for Marketing & Promotion of Rural Products and Entrepreneurship Development (CMPRED), the programme focused on strengthening the marketing capabilities of CRP-EPs to support non-farm enterprises and rural entrepreneurship.

The initiative aims to equip community resource persons with relevant marketing knowledge and skills that can be further shared with rural entrepreneurs, contributing to stronger enterprises, better market opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.

Building a Future-Ready DAY-NRLM Workforce

NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj and IIM Nagpur are exploring a strategic collaboration for a Skill Gap Assessment/Training Needs Assessment (TNA) of DAY-NRLM functionaries working across State, District and Block levels.

The initiative aims to identify critical competency gaps and emerging training requirements and translate these insights into need-based, role-specific and practical learning interventions.

The strategic discussions involved Prof. (Dr.) Bhimraya Metri, Prof. (Dr.) Arun Kumar Rath, Prof. (Dr.) Alok Kumar Singh and Dr. Sapan Kumar Singh from IIM Nagpur, along with Prof. (Dr.) Ravindra Gavali and Dr. Jyoti Prakash Mohanty from NIRDPR.

As DAY-NRLM enters its next phase, strengthening the skills, leadership and managerial capabilities of its human resources will be crucial for stronger institutions and better outcomes for rural communities.

🐄 Strengthening Livestock-Based Livelihoods through Community Capacity Building

The DAY-NRLM Resource Cell, NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, conducted a Training Programme on Livestock Management for CRPs under TGILP from 1–4 September 2026 at NIRDPR, Hyderabad.

The programme focused on strengthening the capacities of Community Resource Persons (CRPs) in livestock management and equipping them with practical knowledge to support rural households engaged in livestock-based livelihoods.

Through interactive learning, knowledge sharing and practical orientation, the training aimed to enhance community-level support for sustainable livestock practices and livelihood promotion.

🌿 Strengthening Skills and Professional Standards in the Pest Management Industry

The NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, Government of India, conducted a series of Training of Trainers (Pedagogy – RPL) and Training of Assessors (RPL) programmes for professionals from the Pest Management Industry.

👨‍🏫 Training of Trainers – Pedagogy (RPL)

The programme focused on strengthening the pedagogical capabilities of industry professionals to deliver standardised and quality training under the NCVET-approved qualification of Industrial General Pest Management Technician.

📝 Training of Assessors (RPL)
📅 3 September 2026

The Training of Assessors programme focused on developing competent assessors capable of ensuring consistent, transparent and quality-oriented assessment under the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) framework.

🎯 Together, these initiatives will help to:

✅ Standardise training and assessment practices across the country
✅ Build a wider pool of trained trainers and qualified assessors
✅ Recognise and formally validate existing skills through RPL
✅ Strengthen the availability of skilled Pest Management Technicians
✅ Enhance quality, professionalism and industry readiness

🌿 Building Skills for Women-Led Rural Enterprises

The Centre for Innovations and Appropriate Technologies for Skills and Jobs, NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj conducted a Herbal Cosmetic Products Making Training using Medicinal and Aromatic Herbs for SHGs/CRPs under the Lakhpati Didi Initiative from 24–28 August 2026 at the Rural Technology Park, NIRDPR, Hyderabad.

The five-day hands-on programme focused on developing practical skills in herbal cosmetic product making, encouraging value addition, entrepreneurship and sustainable income-generation opportunities for SHGs and CRPs.

The initiative reflects NIRDPR’s commitment to strengthening rural livelihoods through appropriate technologies, skill development, innovation and women-led enterprise development.
