This area was declared a Sanctuary in the year 1987 and is spread over an area of 482 km2. It is the prominent attraction of Maharajganj District and includes seven forest ranges of the adjoining areas. The Sanctuary acts as the corridor between the Sanctuaries in Nepal & Bihar. It is one of the habitats of tiger in U.P. As per 2007 census Animals found here (number in bracket show their population)- Tiger (11), Cheetal (Deer) (586), Wild Cat, Wild boar (2,546),Vulture (235), Sambhar (139), Monkey (9,473), Crane, Python, Crocodile & Aligator (79), Bison (2,090), Porcupine (07),Rabbits (175), Bear(01), Peacock (78), Wildfowl (89), Baboon (Lagoon) (5,506), Crane (257), Kankar (199), Patha (89) Sohagi Barwa & Katarnia Ghat Sanctuaries (Part of Dudhawa Tiger Reserve) are connected through Siwalik forests of Nepal. It has the tiger occupancy in 139 km2 in two separate blocks.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has been constructed in 1968-69 by a Mahant whose Samadhi has also been built in the premises. District Magistrate, Maharajganj has the responsibility to look after the temple administration. Some religious ceremonies are considered very auspicious if performed here, like, Rudrabhishek, Mundan, marriage etc. People visit this temple in large number during Shravan month & on Shivratri day. (Timings: 6am-8pm, open all days, Monday- special day)

Nichlaul is a town and a nagar panchayat Tahsil in Maharajganj district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is situated 80 km from Gorakhpur and 25 km from Maharajganjin North direction. It is very close to Nepal as just 13 km
Nichlaul is known for its ancient history. It was a part of Chandragupt Mourya's vast empire. Later it was ruled by Raja Ratna Sen. Itis also the residence of the poet Kartaram Mishra, a great devotee to Goddess Sharda who lived in British era.
Government facilities-
There is a Sadar Hospital and Animal Hospital facilitated by the government. Block and Tehsil offices are there. The Police Station is also in the centre of the town. The state government facilitate Buses for transport to link it with Nepal, Gorakhpur and other neighbourhoods. ­ However Nichloul is not connected by a rail line. The nearest Railway Station is Gurli Ramgadwa, a village 15 km to the southeast.
Famous and religious places-
Etahia Shiv Mandir is just 8 km from the place, considered as most popular place for holy place of lord Shiva. In the month of Shravan asper Hindu calender there is a huge arrival of pilgrims at the place. Tikulahia Devi temple is also there within the town.

Siswa Bazar is one of the oldest market towns in the district of Maharajganj of eastern Uttar Pradesh. It is about 62 km from Gorakhpur and situated to the east of Maharajganj on the arterial road connecting Nichlaul and Kaptanganj. The location of the town is 14 km east of Senduria, 12 km west of Kohar Gari and 12 km north of Bharwalia.
