Jagdeep Dhankhar will become the 14th Vice President of India succeeding M Venkaiah Naidu on August 11, after defeating Margaret Alva in 16th election to the VP's office.

Dhankhar, who till his nomination as NDA's VP pick was the Governor of West Bengal, secured 528 votes, against Opposition candidate Alva's 182. 15 votes were declared invalid out of the 725 that were cast. MPs of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha including nominated members are eligible to cast their votes in the VP elections
