Before the Flood

زۆر خۆشحاڵین کە هاوڕێیمان سیڤەر کاکەجوان کاندیدکراوە بۆ بەدەستهێنانی فەندی پەیمانگای گۆیث بۆ ئەنجامدانی دۆکیومێنتاریەک لەسەر بەحراوی. هیوای سەرکەوتنی بۆ دەخوازین و یەکەی شوێنەواری
زانکۆی راپەرین بە هەموو شێوەیەک هاوکاری دەکات.

We are happy to hear our good friend Siver Kakajwan has been shortlisted for funding from the Goethe Institute to produce a documentary on the Bahrawi. We wish him good luck, and Raparin Heritage Unit will support him to preserve our local memory.

We hope that our community remains safe and well during this time. As the situation continues to improve in Kurdistan, we are looking at continuing our work in a safe and suitable environment. Our team continues to work with UK organisations to bring documents, drawings and photos to the community. We hope to share these with you in the near future.

بەشی یەکەمی پڕۆژەکەمان تەواو کرد، زانیاری نزیکەی ١١٠ خێزانی بەحراویمان تۆمارکرد و ھەروەھا رەسمی کۆنی ڕانیەمان لە ئەرشیڤەکانی ئۆکسفۆرد دەستکەوت .سەردانی مۆزەخانەی نەتەوەی بەغداد مان کرد و چاومان کەوت بە بەشێک لەو شتانەی کە ھی ئەم ناوچەیە بوون ، بۆمان دەرکەوت کە گرنگی ئەم دەریاچەیە (دەربەند) بۆ خەڵک چیە.لە ماوەیەکی نزیکدا دەست دەکەین بە بەشی دووەم کە تۆمارکردنی زانیاری خێزانەکانە بە شێوەی ڤیدێۆ ، بۆ ئەوەی نەوەی داھاتوو ئاشنابکەین بەم چیرۆکانە

We have completed the first stage of the project - collecting details of over 110 Bahrawi families, found images of Ranya in archives in Oxford, visited artifacts from the sites in the National Museum of Iraq and explored the meaning of the lake for the community. The second stage will begin shortly to interview these families to record their stories for future generations.

تیمەکەمان ئەمجارە لە بەکرەجۆ بوون ،بە مەبەستی بینینی خەڵڵکی بەحراوی کە زۆرێکیان لە وێ نیشتەجێن.دوو کەسمان بینینی کە ئیشیان لە دروستکردنی سەدەی دووکان کردووە ،چیرۆکی زۆریان بۆ باسکردین کە ئیشیان لەگەڵ چەندین نەتەوەی جیاواز کردووە ،وەکو (بەریتانی ، فەڕەنسی ) زۆرێکی تر . ئێمەش چیرۆک و ناوەکانیانمان تۆمارکرد بۆ ھەنگاوی

Our team went to Bakrajo, to talk to Bahrawi people as we know many of them live there .we met two people who used to work in the dukan dam , they had stories of working with many different nationalities:French, British as well as others. We collected their stories for the second step.

Shemshara is one of the most important historical sites that was submerged by the construction of Dukan dam. The team are exploring the cuneiform archive - finding out about Raparin’s first uprising - 1000s of years ago.

Some of the team visited Sanagasar today to find out more about Life before the Flood. They were also treated to the famous Sangasari hospitality.

Our team continues to work hard. Today one of the teams visited Saruchawa, one of the places that the Bahrawi people moved to, to find Bahrawi people and collecting information
