The County Government of Bomet has announced the final phase of construction for the Ndarawetta Irish Potato Plant, a flagship project aimed at transforming the region’s agricultural economy.

The plant is designed to process Irish potatoes into value-added products such as crisps and chips, addressing long-standing challenges faced by farmers, including price volatility and limited market access. By integrating production, processing, and packaging, the County Government will be creating opportunities for youth, women, and skilled professionals at every level.

Governor Barchok's administration anticipates commissioning the facility by next month, pending final construction and equipment installations. Training programs to equip farmers with modern agronomic practices aligned with the plant’s production needs will be offered ahead of the operationalization of the plant.

The project aligns with Kenya’s national agenda to boost agro-processing and reduce post-harvest losses, which cost the agricultural sector an estimated 30% of annual output.
