The Oloolua Nature Trail has a record of over 90 species of Birds including one of the strongest Birds of Prey The African Crowned Eagle .
A Historic Crowned Eagles Tower says it all; where World Renowned Dr Leslie Brown started to study a pair of Crowned Eagle in 1960s.
Dr Leslie asked a youngster Simon Thomsett to keep watch of the Eagles.
In 1986 Thomsett built the wooden hide for Alan Root to film Eagles on the nest.

Bird enthusiasts are encouraged to visit for a guided Bird Walk.

That Ancient Egyptians began manufacturing writing material from the inner pith of the Papyrus plant as early as the 3rd millennium BCE. The word "paper" comes directly from the word papyrus.

The beautiful papyrus reeds at Swamp of The Oloolua Nature Trail are more than just plants since they are homes, hiding places, and nurseries for wildlife🐦🦋🐸🐍🐌
They also play an important role in maintaining healthy wetland environments.
Next time you visit, resist the temptation to pull, break or cut them.

We kindly encourage all visitors to make their payments via eCitizen before or upon arrival. Thank you for your cooperation and for supporting efficient, transparent service delivery.

Here's are the steps to follow👇

1. Search kipre.ecitizen.go.ke

2. Sign into your e-citizen account

3. Search kipre-agency (Kenya Institute of Primate Research)

4. Select Oloolua Nature Trail (Click apply)

5. Once in: Scroll down then click NEXT. Category of applicant click self if alone, click other person if with others.

6. Fill the relevant details -Nature Trail, Citizen/Resident/Non resident, Date of visit

7. Click preview

8. Click complete

9. Choose mode of payment-Mpesa, Visa card.

10. If Mpesa -Enter phone number, initiate payment, enter PIN once prompted, click complete then download receipt

Kenya Herpetofauna Working Group
Team recently conducted an engaging training at the Oloolua Nature Trail, highlighting how forests are more than just places for walking; they are living classrooms rich in biodiversity, research, conservation and environmental education.
From reptiles and amphibians to birds, insects and native plants, forests provide endless opportunities for learning, discovery and connecting communities with nature while promoting conservation and ecological awareness.
Guided tours are provided at a request.
