We held an engaging mentorship session in Nyalenda with girls aged 12–19, focusing on the importance of goal setting, staying committed to education, and addressing the challenges of teen pregnancy. The discussion emphasized how clear goals can shape their future, while education remains a key pathway to independence and empowerment. Open conversations around teen pregnancy highlighted its impact on dreams and opportunities, encouraging the girls to make informed and responsible choices.
A strong message on peer accountability emerged, with the girls encouraged to support, guide, and challenge one another positively in order to stay on track and succeed. This aligns with the mandate of NeuroRoots Foundation, which seeks to nurture resilient, self-aware, and empowered young people by strengthening their mental, emotional, and cognitive development. Through such dialogues, NeuroRoots continues to build a generation of young leaders who are intentional about their growth and future.

Teenagers today are navigating complex emotional, social, and identity challenges, making literature a powerful tool for self-understanding and growth. Rough Silk by Deborah Auko offers a relatable and thought-provoking exploration of adolescent struggles, resilience, and personal transformation. Through its authentic storytelling, the book helps young people reflect on real-life issues such as relationships, choices, peer pressure, and self-worth.
For NeuroRoots Foundation, promoting this book supports cognitive and emotional development by encouraging empathy, critical thinking, and healthy self-expression. It also creates a safe entry point for conversations around mental health, helping teenagers feel seen, understood, and less alone in their experiences.
