𝗢𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲, 𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗚𝗮𝘇𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗶
Sometimes, conservation begins not with sirens or headlines… but with quiet acts of mercy beneath a lonely African sky.

Earlier this year, the people of Manyatta Durte found a tiny Grant’s gazelle calf standing beside loss, its mother gone to the harshness of the wild. Fragile. Confused. Alone.

𝗬𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝘁𝗲.

They sheltered the little calf through the silence of the night, guarded it from danger, and called for help — trusting that its life still mattered.

Under the swift coordination of the Warden In-Charge of Sibiloi National Park, Mr. Mohamud Sharrif Ahmed, the orphan was brought safely into care, where weary legs slowly found strength again.

Then, as though the wilderness itself was testing compassion once more, another orphaned calf was discovered only weeks ago. And once again, the community answered with kindness.

Today, the two young gazelles... a male and a female, run together across the ancient landscapes of Sibiloi, no longer alone in this vast world.

In a wilderness often defined by survival, it is deeply moving to witness human beings choosing tenderness.

Perhaps that is how hope survives too. Quietly. One life at a time.

𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽.

To strengthen partnerships with neighboring communities, the Warden Sibiloi National Park, Mr. Shariff Ahmed and the Community Warden, Mr. Roba Duba, recently held a conservation education and awareness session at Elgade Centre centered on sustainable co-existence and shared conservation responsibility.

The engagement focused on strengthening collaboration through community-led conservation, highlighting the socio-economic benefits of wildlife protection, clarifying the legal compensation process for human-wildlife conflict, and raising awareness on the environmental and public health risks associated with poaching, bushmeat consumption, and wildlife poisoning.

Together, we continue building a future where communities and wildlife thrive side by side.

The community saw her. And they chose compassion over silence. They protected her, and immediately alerted the Warden In-Charge of Sibiloi National Park, Mr. Shariff Ahmed Mohamud. A rescue team was dispatched without delay.

In that fragile window of time, cooperation became her lifeline.

Today, she lives—because people chose to care.

This is conservation at its most human: swift, selfless, and deeply connected to the land and its wildlife.

The Sibiloi National Park team this week held a consultative meeting at the North Horr DCC Office, chaired by the ACC North Horr representing the DCC, together with Gabra community elders.

The engagement focused on a formal request to allocate space for the establishment of a KWS camp in North Horr, an initiative aimed at bringing essential wildlife and conservation services closer to residents while strengthening wildlife security in the area.

The elders received the proposal positively and acknowledged its strategic importance. They requested a two-week period to further consult with other key stakeholders who were not present, including youth, women representatives, and county leadership, to ensure a fully inclusive and representative decision-making process.

The discussions mark a significant step toward deepening community partnership and advancing conservation outcomes in the region.
