Today marked a great milestone with in-depth briefings on Building Climate Resilience with the Urban Poor (BCRUP) to His Excellency David Kerich, Kenya's Ambassador to the United States of America, Washington DC. Uptake of demand driven resilience projects and green jobs towards realization of resilience urban poor neighborhoods and enhancing adaptive capacity of the urban poor took centre stage.
The Ambassador assured of the Embassies support to the BCRUP course including planned activities during UNGA@81 in New York 2026.

The Building Climate Resilience with the Urban Poor (BCRUP) initiative continues to bring together a powerful coalition of partners - governments, development finance institutions, the United Nations, private sector leaders, and philanthropic actors—to drive investment in climate-resilient urban development.

At the High Level Dinner in Nairobi, co-hosted by the Government of Kenya, the Joint SDG Fund, and the Embassy of Spain, partners aligned around a shared goal: building a structured, investable pipeline that delivers for the urban poor while unlocking blended climate finance at scale.

From catalytic capital providers to commercial banks and sovereign champions, each partner plays a critical role in shaping the BCRUP Fund—designed to de-risk investments, attract private capital, and accelerate resilient infrastructure across Africa.

Together, we are moving beyond commitments to coordinated action—laying the foundation for a dedicated BCRUP Fund structuring working group and a pipeline of bankable projects.

Highlights from the BCRUP High-Level Event held during the World Urban Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan 🇦🇿.
The session convened key stakeholders from across Africa and beyond to discuss practical solutions, partnerships, and resource mobilization for strengthening resilience among urban poor communities affected by climate change.

The BCRUP Regional Readiness Technical Workshop, held during the Africa Forward Summit 2026, brought together key stakeholders from across the continent, including National Designated Authorities, development partners, climate finance institutions, UN agencies, and urban development experts, for strategic discussions to advance climate-resilient solutions for vulnerable urban communities.

Held at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, the workshop focused on strengthening country readiness frameworks, refining neighborhood selection processes, unlocking innovative financing pathways, and accelerating partnerships that support inclusive and resilient urban growth.

As Africa continues to navigate rapid urbanization and climate challenges, collaborative platforms such as BCRUP are critical in driving scalable, investable, and people-centered urban solutions.
