Investing in resilient and sustainable coffee value chains is an economic, social, and climate imperative. Kenya is committed to advancing this agenda through the Coffee Sector Revitalisation Programme, youth empowerment, innovation, and regional collaboration.

Lamu County: Revitalization of the Cotton Value Chain
This morning, in the company of my colleague, PS Abubakar Hassan, we paid a courtesy call on H.E. Governor Issa Timamy at the Lamu County Headquarters in Mokowe. Our visit comes ahead of the official launch of the National Cotton Growers Co-operative Union (NACGCU) Limited and inspection of the ongoing construction of Ginning plant in Mpeketoni, Lamu County. We explored a range of national development initiatives, with a key focus on the revitalization of the cotton value chain. This sector holds immense potential to boost Kenya’s economy through value addition, job creation, and increased export revenues.
Our commitment in the State Department to support the cotton farmers, strengthening of cooperatives, and enabling industrial processing is central to realizing this vision, not only for Lamu but for all the cotton growing Counties.

Dublin, Ireland, Day two of our benchmarking mission, led by Cabinet Secretary Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya, we visited Donore Credit Union in Dublin—Ireland’s first and only independent credit union since 1958. We explored its rich history and innovative approaches that have fostered strong member engagement, financial inclusion, and community-driven growth. This visit comes at a crucial time we are undertaking major policy review and restructuring in our Country's SACCO sub-sector. The lessons from Donore and other institutions will inform best global practices and reforms that strengthen governance, enhance regulatory compliance, accelerate digital transformation, and position SACCOs as key drivers of inclusive economic development.
