Beyond representation and legislation, Members of the National Assembly also carry a critical oversight mandate.

Our Program Assistant, Mwamburi Benjamin explains how this mandate came to be and why it is central to accountability in governance. It is divided into three key areas.

First is oversight of public funds..

Second is oversight of state officers, including holding leaders accountable through mechanisms such as questioning, inquiries, and even impeachment where necessary.

Third is Parliament’s role in key national decisions such as the declaration of war or a state of emergency.

Benjamin Mwamburi breaks this down further in the video.

Members of the National Assembly are at the heart of this process. They make laws, the Executive implements them, and the Judiciary interprets them.

But how exactly does a law come to life?

Benjamin Mwamburi takes us through the legislative process and shows how Members of Parliament shape the laws that guide the country.
