PAPER DEMAND TRENDS IN KENYA
Paper is one of the primary consumer products whose high demand emanates from its diverse use in day to day activities with global annual demand standing at 420 million tonnes. As a basic wood based product popular for making reading, writing materials and sanitary products such as tissue, this demand is projected to grow at a steady rate of 2.2% in the long term. This rate is slower compared to that of other consumer products which stands at 9.3%. This is due to a general reduction in global demand for paper due to digitization and adoption of paperless business transactions.
Nevertheless, the emergence of COVID-19 has led to a significant rise in demand for paper-based sanitary products such as tissue paper and towels some of which are made from a percentage of recycled paper.
