WAD 2015

Over 100 UN staff members today participated in the 5-kilometre keep-fit Run within the United Nations Office at Nairobi to commemorate the World AIDS Day .The UN Run organized on a HIV and well-ness platform for staff. The theme for this year, just like last year is "Getting to Zero" - Zero new HIV infections, Zero Aids-related deaths and Zero discrimination.

The Director-General, UNON, Ms Sahle-Work Zewde flagged off the fun race and she also took part in the actual event. In participation was Dr. Pirkko Heinonen, the UNICEF Kenya Representative. WAD is commemorated on 1 December worldwide.

Today's event was organized jointly with the recreational center, the HIV peer supporters, UN Joint Medical Services and the UN Cares office. Like in the past, staff members registered for the this event for a nominal fee. The proceeds will go towards supporting a charity programme on behalf of UN staff. Most participants found the run to be a thrilling experience.

Catherine Masaka, the Deputy Country Director (Operations), UNDP presented with medals to winners of the race and was closed by Dr. Joshua Anino, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, UN Joint Medical Services.

As part of UN Cares activities for this year's World AIDS Day, UN Cares team held two main activities, the UN HIV and AIDS fun Run and a HIV testing and Counseling campaign that started on November 30 to end on 4 December 2015.
