The shift toward cleaner, more efficient energy solutions is no longer optional; it is a strategic imperative. At the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), this transition is driven through the Centre for Energy Efficiency and Conservation, which works with the industry to drive compliance in national energy regulations, improve energy performance, and reduce operational costs.

Today, KAM Chief Executive, Tobias Alando hosted Lean Energy Solutions, led by Managing Director Dinesh Tembhekar, to explore opportunities for collaboration in advancing sustainable energy adoption within the manufacturing sector.

Lean Energy Solutions partners with manufacturers to reduce carbon emissions through the installation and operation of biomass-powered boilers. Beyond cost savings, this model enhances resilience. Locally sourced biomass reduces exposure to global oil price volatility and supply disruptions, enabling more predictable and sustainable operations.

The Hidden Weight on Kenya’s Industrialization Agenda.

Is the path to Manufacturing Vision20by30 being blocked by a mountain of red tape? KAM Chief Executive, Tobias Alando, breaks down an overwhelming web of levies, licenses, and overlapping regulatory fees is stifling local industrial growth.

From the impact of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework to the daily financial strain of the Standards Levy, Tobias highlights why these costs are making Kenyan products less competitive and slowing down national development. As we push for industrial transformation, are our regulatory layers supporting growth, or simply acting as revenue streams?

Today, Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) participated in the Tanzania–Kenya Business Forum 2026, themed “Unlocking Private Sector Growth and Investment.”

The forum brought together government and private sector leaders from the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Kenya.
Held during the State Visit of H.E. President William Samoei Ruto, the forum is hosted by H.E. President Samia Suluhu Hassan and focuses on strengthening trade, investment, and private sector collaboration between the two countries.

Speaking on a panel discussion on “Agriculture, Trade & Investment: From Farm to Market,” KAM Chief Executive Tobias Alando joined agribusiness leaders, commodity traders, and investment firms from Serengeti Breweries, Bio Food Products, Agriculture and Food Authority, Trademark Africa, and Tanzania Horticultural Association to discuss strengthening agricultural trade relationships, enhancing value chain integration, and addressing non-tariff barriers to unlock market opportunities.

“By identifying shared priorities and areas of collaboration, establishing structured cooperation and governance frameworks, harmonizing standards and regulatory systems, and leveraging funding and technical assistance, we can build a strong and coordinated Tanzania–Kenya agricultural value chain partnership,” highlighted Mr. Alando.

He explained that robust investment frameworks, anchored in policy and regulatory alignment, incentives and financial support, public-private partnerships (PPPs) and joint ventures, infrastructure development, market access and trade facilitation, as well as technical capacity building and targeted promotion, will unlock greater Kenyan agribusiness FDI into Tanzania.

He further noted that digital agriculture platforms are transforming agricultural trade between Kenya and Tanzania by enhancing integration, transparency, and efficiency across the value chain. These platforms provide real-time market data, streamline certification and trade processes, improve quality compliance and traceability, and strengthen coordination among stakeholders. He added that the insights generated are key to reducing non-tariff barriers and advancing regional integration within the East African Community.

Such forums are key in strengthening collaboration, addressing trade challenges, and unlocking investment opportunities to drive regional growth and integration.
