DAY FOUR
Today, the Free Eye Camp at Rang'ala Boys High School in Siaya County concluded on a high note with a visit from the County Director of Education, Rev. Francis Shikanda, who commended the ongoing exercise and applauded the impact the initiative is having on learners within the region. He expressed his appreciation for the programme, noting the importance of supporting learners to see better and more clearly for improved learning outcomes.
Also present was Beatrice Njuguna, GM - IEC & Eng Jonathan Mbutu, who oversaw the exercise and ensured the operations continued running smoothly.
So far, the camp has attended to 1,548 patients, including students, teachers and members of the surrounding community.

DAY THREE
The Free Medical Eye Camp was officially launched today at Rang'ala Boys High School in Ugunja Constituency, Siaya County.
The programme seeks to support early detection and timely management of visual impairments among school-going children, helping create more inclusive and conducive learning environments for learners.
The launch featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by an orientation session on the screening process and how learners will benefit from the exercise. Rang'ala Boys High School, with a student population of 1,278 learners, is among the key beneficiary institutions under this initiative by the Rural Electrification & Renewable Energy Corporation in collaboration with Kenya Society for Blind.
As part of REREC’s environmental sustainability efforts, 1,500 tree seedlings were donated to the school, followed by a ceremonial tree planting exercise within the school compound.
This event was officiated by Hon. John Apodo, MCA for Sidindi Ward, hosted by the school’s Principal, Mr. Lucas Olunja, who warmly welcomed guests & partners. The Siaya County Director of Education was also represented during the ceremony by Mrs Issabella Bota the County Quality Assurance Officer, reaffirming the importance of collaborative efforts in supporting learners’ health and education.
The REREC team was led by Eng. Jonathan Mbutu, while The KSB team was led by Dr. Albert Masua.

DAY TWO
REREC's Free Medical Eye Camp continued today at St Gilbert Simerro Senior School in Ugenya Constituency in Siaya County.
A total of 588 students’, 5 teachers and non-teaching staff were successfully screened today as REREC, in partnership with the Kenya Society for the Blind (KSB), promotes accessible eye healthcare for learners. Together, we are helping learners see brighter, learn better, and build a healthier future.
Later in the day, the REREC & KSB teams paid a courtesy call to the Rang’ala Boys High School Principal Mr. Lucas Olunja to discuss the Free Eye Medical camp to be carried out at the school on Wednesday & Thursday this week.

DAY ONE
REREC's Free Medical Eye Camp at Simerro Senior School in Ugenya constituency in Siaya County was a great success today.
A total of 422 students out of 1,010 were successfully screened today as REREC, in partnership with the Kenya Society for the Blind (KSB), continues to promote accessible eye healthcare for learners in Siaya County.
The remaining 588 students will be screened tomorrow as the exercise continues. Teachers and non teaching staff also got an opportunity to be screened.
Together, we are helping learners see brighter, learn better, and build a healthier future.
Earlier today, the REREC & KSB teams paid a courtesy call to the County Director For Education Francis Shikhanda to discuss the ongoing Eye Medical camp being carried out within the county.

REREC, in partnership with the Kenya Society for the Blind (KSB), is conducting a Free Medical Eye Camp in Siaya County from 11th – 15th May, 2026, reaching over 2,800 learners in Rang’ala Primary, Boys High School and Simerro schools.
Through this CSR initiative under the Health & Education Pillars, we continue giving back to communities by promoting accessible eye healthcare, early detection, and better learning outcomes for every child.

Today, residents of Othaya Constituency in Nyeri County have every reason to celebrate following the launch of the Othaya service cable drops PHASE 1 project by the area Member of Parliament, Hon. Michael Wambugu Wainaina. This project targets every customer within reach of power network of 600M radius of existing Transformers.
This transformative initiative will connect hundreds of homes to electricity, bringing reliable power closer to families across the constituency.
Beyond lighting homes, the project is set to empower households, stimulate the growth of small businesses, and unlock new economic opportunities for the community. It marks a significant milestone in expanding access to electricity and improving livelihoods in the region.
The event was graced by the REREC Mt. Kenya Regional team, led by James Ndegwa, alongside other staff members and local leaders, underscoring a shared commitment to driving development at the grassroots level.

This morning marked a major milestone for rural electrification in the North Rift as REREC’s North Rift Region flagged off Last Mile Connectivity materials at the Uasin Gishu County Headquarters in Eldoret.
The exercise was led by Regional Manager Eng. Jonah Kosgei alongside Uasin Gishu County officials led by Energy CECM Anthony Sitienei and Energy Chief Officer Mark Some, reaffirming the strong partnership between REREC and the County Government in advancing access to electricity across the region.
The Last Mile Connectivity projects, being implemented in collaboration with the Uasin Gishu County Government, will benefit households and communities across Kapseret, Moiben, Kesses, Turbo, Ainabkoi and Soy constituencies.
Access to electricity remains one of the most powerful drivers of socio-economic transformation. Beyond lighting homes, electricity powers businesses, supports learning in schools, strengthens healthcare delivery, improves security and creates opportunities for income generation.
